About

Craft & Art & Design, Oh My!

My journey as a maker began at a very young age. My Mum enjoys patchwork quilting and dabbles in other crafty projects. I grew up with her sewing, cross stitching, knitting, and developed an interest myself. Later in life I would personalise my school uniform and made my own school bag from faux fur. I also became more artsy, doing pastel classes, exhibiting & even selling some works, and studying art for my HSC.

Fast forward a few years to 2009, my final year studying graphic design. As part of our end of year exhibition we were given a display cabinet to do with what we wished. I chose to create a photo wall featuring my own works. I chose the theme of these works and display to be the colour red. Over the few weeks of the exhibition being open, much to my surprise and delight, some teachers became interested in my pieces and asked if I would sell prints, which I did happily! This inspired me to later open an etsy store in October 2010 and these prints were the first items I listed.

Since then those illustrations have been adapted to also become some of the cover designs for my most popular item, my weekly planners. This item came about because I was looking for something specific and I couldn't find anything I liked, so I decided to make my own. By this time I was working at a print shop, which I still do to this day, where I print/bind all my printed items including my weekly planners. I choose to print all my pieces on recycled stocks and reuse materials where I can, including for packaging.

I also create fabric button pieces to satisfy my obsession with fabric and to make use of my ever growing collection. I even use pieces from my Mum's stash of scraps. Fabric is a great source of inspiration, as are my customers! If you have an idea for a custom piece or new product please let me know, I'd love to hear your ideas.

I look forward to continuing to grow Miss Meg Shop and am interested in collaborating with stores to sell my pieces. If you're interested I would love to hear from you! Similarly if you have any requests, suggestions, comments, or love to share please feel free to contact me.

Smiles & sunshine,
miss meg
