5 out of 5 starsKara and her wares are absolutely extraordinary. Her service was friendly, timely and communicative, and the selenite air plant itself is breathtaking. My mom is obsessed with it! It came in beautiful packaging, which was a wonderful experience in its own right. Highly recommend MistandSea; you can't go wrong.

About MistandSea
Be inspired by nature.
A handmade shop with eco-friendly values and a vision to bring the magic of nature indoors. Being close to nature improves well-being, but many of us find it difficult to spend time in nature because of our busy lives. Whether your mist & sea air plant design is in your office, at your bedside table, or given to your loved ones as a gift, my wish is for each piece to inspire something that you need; inner trust to someone with self-doubt, deep calming breathes to someone experiencing stress, or unconditional self-love to someone who forgot how amazing they are. Read the each product description to find out which air plant piece will serve you!

Frequently asked questions
What is an air plant?
An air plant, also known as a tillandsia, is a plant that does not need soil to obtain its nutrients. Instead, it absorbs nutrients in water through the trichomes on its leaves (they appear to be small white hairs on the plant, although it is hard to capture in photos). In nature, tillandsias attach themselves to trees, rocks, shrubs, and other stationary objects. They wrap their "roots" around the object, although this is only for support, and not for nutrients. They prefer to live in temperatures between 50 and 90 degrees F; some tillandsias can be found in more tropical climates, while others can be found in arid climates. Please message me if you have any specific questions about the tillandsias in my shop!
How do I water my air plant?
Soak plants for 20-30 minutes in a bowl of tap/filtered water 1X/week. In drier climates, mist 1-3 times per week in addition to soaking, or soak 2X/week. Your air plant needs to be watered more frequently if the tips/leaves are browning and/or the leaves are curling under the plant. Of course, there are exceptions. Slightly brown tips are normal, especially if the air plant is producing new pups or about to bloom, and some air plant leaves naturally curl under.
Keep plant in aerated space while drying and make sure plant completely dries within 4 hours of watering. Gently shake water off after soaking and place upside down while drying to prevent water from collecting in the root.
What type of lighting do air plants like?
The answer to this varies depending on air plant variety, but on average they enjoy bright indirect sunlight (bright fluorescent home/office lighting is okay, too). Air plants with many trichomes covering their body (the little white fuzzy hairs that grow on the plant leaves) tolerate more sunlight, while plants with shinier leaves and less trichomes prefer less sunlight. Air plants generally like a few hours of direct sun, just take care when the rays are especially powerful that day (e.g., no cloud cover), as the leaves can get sunburned.
What temperature do air plants prefer?
They prefer warmer temperatures (50-90 degrees).
Blooming and pupping
Air plants will occasionally bloom flowers (frequency depends on the type). Pupping is when air plant babies are made! You will see a new very small air plant coming off the parent. The pups have a separate center from the parent. When the pup reaches at least 1/3rd the parent plant size, you can remove it by gently grabbing its base and twisting it away. You don't have to remove the pup if you'd like an air plant clump!
