My custom hat exceeded all expectations! I've always wanted a cute floppy hat but my head has been too big to fit into retail options. Throughout the entire process, Bridget was so open, helpful and responsive to all my messages. She really had made a piece of art. My hat is very well made and she even added a lining which makes it feel so expensive. I can't wait to wear it!

It's going to be a little difficult to put into words how pleased I am with this hat. Bridget was incredible to work with, and was so thoughtful and respectful of the work of other creators, which is a mark of integrity I highly respect. This hat and this outfit have been a dream of mine ever since I saw them on screen, and to actually have this realized with such an amazing, gorgeous piece to top it all off was a little overwhelming (in the best way possible!). I am thoroughly impressed with Bridget's work, and would absolutely recommend her to anyone.

About

It's All About the Culmination of a Lifetime of Learning

I am the sole proprietor and the Milliner/Designer/Artisan that creates every item you receive from the design stage, through creation, embellishment, and final steaming and pressing. I lovingly pack your items and take them to the post office for shipping. You will not be communicating with a service representative. You will be talking directly to me. If something isn't quite right, it falls on my shoulders. You won't catch me pretending to be a large corporation. I love being a small company that maintains personal contact with my clients.

My hats are hand blocked/hand stitched using traditional millinery techniques from the early 1900s and prior. The majority of my hat blocks date from the 1920's to the 1950s, so if you see a hat that looks like something your parents or grandparents wore, it very well may be the same style. I also use freeform blocking to create many of my designs as well as designing and making hats from flat patterns.

It is difficult to answer the question, "How long have you been making hats?" I began sewing and crafting as a child. As I grew, my interest in needle crafts, design, and craftsmanship grew. I am a firm believer that it is important to continually grow and reach for higher standards while learning new skills and maturing in my craftsmanship. Every skill that I have developed over my lifetime, put me closer to becoming a milliner. By the time that I decided to devote a good portion of my time to millinery, I already knew every stitch required for millinery work, I knew how to stretch and shrink fabric, I knew how to design for different body shapes and personality types, I had made headpieces and soft fabric caps and hats for years, and knew what it took to start and operate a business on a shoestring. Millinery is simply a compilation of all my skills.

I find that a quiet moment floods my mind with ideas that I can't wait to try. I love vintage pieces and you may recognize that influence in some of my work. Most of my items are one-of-a-kind or in very limited quantities. I enjoy using unexpected items in unusual ways--a nod to some very lean years that created the necessity to make the supplies I had on hand work in very creative ways.

In many ways I am a contradiction. I design fashion items, but could not care less about what is in "style" (let's face it not all of us look good in mini skirts and spandex dresses) and more about what makes an indivdual feel attractive, comfortable, and unique. I think the most beautiful individuals are those with the confidence to dress for their personalities whether they look as though they are flappers, bomb shell babes, hippies, or techno-geeks. I don't care whether you are fat, skinny, tall, or short.

Thank you for visiting Mixed Media by Bridget! Having spent over thirty years designing and crafting wedding gowns, accessories, home decore, and many more items for clients, I am now turning my creative juices to those items that I have longed to design, but had little time for. These are all my original designs. I draft my own patterns and do all my own work.

I began sewing and crafting as a child. As I grew, my interest in needle crafts, design, and craftsmanship grew. I am a firm believer that it is important to continually grow and reach for higher standards while learning new crafts. I love beautiful fabrics, threads, yarns, and really all media as a means of self expression.

My inspiration may come from a piece of fabric, a beautiful sunset, or a child's smile. I find that a quiet moment floods my mind with ideas that I can't wait to try. Returns and exchanges
I endeavor to ship items that I feel my customers will be satisfied with, however, I am not perfect and even with the most careful inspections, mistakes can be made. Please contact me within seven days of receipt, if you are not satisfied for a full refund of the purchase price upon return of the item. I appreciate your consideration by contacting me prior to leaving negative feed back. There is almost always a satisfactory resolution.

Please understand that custom orders are considered final. When you order a custom size/color/design etc., that hat is made to your specifications, and may not ever be sold. This would require me to take a significant loss. If you are not satisfied, please contact me for an alternate resolution.
Payment
I accept payment through direct check out and Paypal which also allows you to pay using your credit card. Payment must be received before shipment is made. Payment should be made within 48 hours to avoid cancellation of transaction.

Payment for custom orders is required before work is started.
Shipping
Shipment for ready made items will be made within 1-3 business days after receipt of payment by USPS priority mail unless otherwise specifed. Custom orders may take up to four weeks. Please be sure to check lead time. If you are concerned about shipping costs and do not need the item ASAP, please contact me. Many times, I can ship first class mail and save on postage.
