Announcement Wire Sculpture and Abstract Art by Dan Sisken at Etsy
Wire Sculpture and Abstract Art by Dan Sisken at Etsy
Inspired by graceful lines, evocative negative spaces, and motion, both actual and implied.
I don't remember exactly how it was I started making mobiles and wire structures, or maybe the question is why I started making them. I had been interested in graceful curving lines and other line shapes for some time. I even took a Japanese shodo class to learn something about that art. At some point, I started making 3-dimensional shapes with heavy paper and from there quickly started hanging them on wires and making simple mobiles. From then on, I was hooked on both mobiles and wire sculpture.
Living close to Washington, DC meant I had an opportunity to view a fairly large number of Alexander Calder creations at the National Gallery and to draw inspiration from them. But at some other point, different impulses started to demand expression, so in addition to the colorful mobiles I have been making for a few years now, I recently started to experiment with abstract wire shapes, both as sculptures rooted on a base and as hanging objects, either as single pieces or as what are best understood as mobiles. Examples of these sculptures and wholly wire mobiles can be found among the items on sale here.
More recently, I have been interested in the intuitive aspects of two-dimensional art, mostly with ink and acrylic paint.
