5 out of 5 starsNothing but great things to say! My purchase was very nicely packaged with care and attention. The presentation was very thoughtful and the extras were not only practical but also well presented in a separate packet. The pen and necklace were just as shown. The pen was lovingly restored and the necklace very well made. The colors are a dead on match from bead to pen to leather cord. Im very happy with my purchase and plan to work with the seller for another custom pen necklace. 10 stars in my book! Thank you!

5 out of 5 starsThe pen came on time and was beautifully clean with a new ink sac. Thanks so much for that. With a couple hours time fixing the ink flow problem, the pen is now in good working order.

5 out of 5 starsModern Analog Pens are first quality and I know for a fact that the seller Jessica takes an enormous amount of pride in her work. She handcrafts her necklaces and does all of the restoration of the pens. This was a tiny pen! But I still love it!

Frequently asked questions
Aren’t fountain pens finicky?
To be honest, yes they can be a little finicky. Fountain pen ink is watery (it escapes easily) so it can be a bit messy to fill your pen. Your pen also has to be cleaned every now and then, including every time you change your ink color.
But enthusiasts learn to appreciate the ritual of cleaning and filling a fountain pen, and find the writing experience offsets the inconvenience.
Why do people use fountain pens if they’re finicky?
Ask 10 people what they like about fountain pens, and you’re likely to get 10 different answers. Here are mine:
** I like being able to use hundreds of different colors of ink without having to buy hundreds of different pens.
** My handwriting makes whatever I write unique, unlike that email in Arial or Times New Roman.
** A well-tuned fountain pen glides across the page — like butter on hot toast. Just not as fattening.
** It’s my little analog revolt against the digital world.
How do I fill and clean my pen?
The pens I restore and sell are lever fillers. In a nutshell, when you pull up on the lever, it compresses a rubber sac inside the barrel. When you put your pen nib in a bottle of ink and release the lever, the vacuum in the rubber sac is released and ink is drawn into the pen. To clean your pen, you fill and empty it with water until the water runs clear.
Here’s a case where digital is better: This one-minute video makes it look easy (‘cause it is) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag0ZV3Tg3DM
Don’t I need good handwriting to use a fountain pen?
Goodness, I hope not.
Fact is, if you can write with a Bic, you can write with a fountain pen. I normally print, with some connected letters, and I love writing with a fountain pen.
Where can I find replacement lead for vintage mechanical pencils?
Auto point makes the 1.1 mm lead used in most vintage mechanical pencils. It’s available online at retailers like Amazon and JetPens.
How do I keep the cap from unscrewing as I wear the pen?
This is tough, because things do tend to come unscrewed from jostling and jiggling. Here are some things to try:
** Get in the habit of gently tightening the pen cap every time you put your necklace on.
** Check periodically as you’re wearing it. (Yeah, I probably wouldn’t remember to do this either.)
** Try smearing a little bees wax on the threads. So little you can hardly see it.
One thing to NOT do is over-tighten the cap. This can crack the cap. If you were 60-80 years old, you’d be brittle, too.
Will a fountain pen improve my handwriting?
Nice try. But there’s nothing inherent in a fountain pen that will improve your handwriting. But, if you find you like writing with a fountain pen, you might write more and that might improve your handwriting.
Besides, we’ve already established that you don’t need good handwriting to use a fountain pen.
What kind of ink should I use?
It’s very important to use ink specific to fountain pens.
DO NOT use India Ink or other inks designed for dip nib pens, calligraphy or other art uses. These inks can dry in a fountain pen and be very difficult to remove.
