Welcome to The Modern Creative! I hope you will find something unique and perfect for your gift-giving needs. I am Jennifer, the one-woman shop behind The Modern Creative. After 13 years in the specialty retail craft business, I came home to raise my two boys. Now that they are both about to be in college, I am excited to create something for myself and stretch my creative business muscles again.
A bit about my inspiration...
My mom is a committed card and gift giver. She spends considerable time selecting cards, looking for just the right message for the occasion. She also spends countless hours looking for small ways to make her gift-giving personal and will seek out small added touches – even for cards and gifts of money. I have often considered what the world would be like if we all spent that kind of time thinking of small and large ways to make others feel special. My mother’s legacy will forever be the unwavering kindness and thoughtfulness she spreads to those she loves. I want to help others spread that type of kindness. As I reflect on my years of juggling work, raising my kids, chasing down gifts, and typically racing into every event barely held together, the thoughtfulness and care I wanted to show were often at odds with my pace of life.
I began The Modern Creative to be a resource for creativity and thoughtfulness at times when we often don’t have time for either. Sometimes the smallest gestures have the biggest impact. Whether it is a unique or personalized card, a gift of money wrapped with an extra touch, or a completely customized gift, I hope to curate something to help you make those you care about feel special!
Lastly, I am also passionate about the environment and feel strongly about the legacy we leave for the future. My items are designed, and handcrafted individually by me in Minnesota. My paper products and packaging are recycled, eco-friendly, sustainable, and/or plant-based. I have invested more upfront to ensure that my business also shows kindness to the earth. To take that a step further, each year, on July 26th (Mangrove Conservation Day), I have committed to donating a percentage of my yearly profits to mangrove re-forestation efforts around the world. It’s a small drop...but we are all about small gestures with big impact here.
