A monster for every mood, and more of that good stuff

Monster op Maat = Dutch for Monster on Size, or better said: Custom Made Monster.

I started drawing monsters over ten years ago in college and haven't stopped since. No piece of paper is safe. Happy monsters, sad monsters, sleepy and excited monsters, a monster for every mood.

After becoming an alien (I moved from The Netherlands to the States in 2006), I felt an even stronger bond with the monsters. I learned pottery in my first months of alienship and naturally, after getting a little better at it, I started plopping monsters on mugs too. Finding the potter's studio was one of the best things that happened to me when I arrived here. Many hours of pottery helped me stay grounded as I was finding my way in a new life and culture far away from family and friends. I still need to create regularly, or I will go a little nuts.

The monsters often reflect my state of mind when I created them.

In addition to the monsters, you'll also regularly see items with wiener dogs pop up, the occasional sheep (or Wilmas as I like to call them, since I used to have a pet sheep named Wilma growing up), other critters and carved decorative designs. Recently I started adding text to mugs, and tiles.

Thank you for visiting my shop!

Originally from The Netherlands, I moved to the States to be with the love of my life. This is my home now, but part of me will always remain very Dutch. I like to bike, sip tea, sleep and create, especially when it involves muddy clay.

I accept credit card and Paypal payments and will ship your item within five business days of payment confirmation, unless otherwise noted in my shop announcement. Please send me a message if your payment gets delayed more than 3 days, so I know what's going on. If I haven't received payment within a week of ordering, I will cancel your order and make the item available to others.

Please note that in case the cost of shipping is less than what you paid for, I will refund you the difference.
I ship within 5 business days of receiving payment, unless otherwise noted in my shop announcement. Bare with me though, as I just moved to Ecuador and am still figuring our the best shipping methods. To the States: allow for about two weeks to receive your package from the moment you placed your order, to other countries it will take longer.

In my shop I do not offer discounts for shipping multiple items, but I will refund any money you paid too much for shipping after I have shipped. Reason I do this afterwards is, because it is hard to calculate shipping rates for multiple items of various size and weight in advance.

International buyers: please note I am not responsible for any potential fees charged by customs.

Mugs will be send in sturdy boxes with lots of protective bubble wrap. Cards and other paper goods will be send in photo mailers to prevent bending. Little wooden boxes in padded envelopes.

I will always send you a shipment confirmation once the monster is on your way, so you know when to expect it.
Refunds and Exchanges
I will not provide refunds on goods that got damaged in the mail. Don't worry, I am generally very cautious about protecting things I made, but if you would like extra insurance, let me know and it can be arranged (see shipping).

If shipping turns out to be cheaper than what you were charged for originally, I will refund you the difference (also see shipping).
Additional policies and FAQs
Please contact me if you have special requests. I make custom invitations, announcements, postcards and ceramics.

If the monster mug is a gift and you would like it shipped directly to the recipient, let me know if you would like to include a special message. I can include a little hand drawn monster gift card with your message in the package, or would be happy to include a card you wrote yourself if you send it to me.
