About

From the Wilds of Montana, where ideas for Montana Wear are born!

I have crocheted warm hats and scarves since I was a young child, sitting next to my grandmother near the warmth of the old stove. I was raised on a Nevada cattle ranch and have always been around many different types of livestock. When I decided to move my family to the northern part of Montana, I began missing my animals. This started the long and exciting love affair wth not only llamas and alpacas, but with processing their fiber. I first started hand spinning on either a drop spindle or a spinning wheel. Next came the acquiring of a cottage fiber mill and Going to the Sun Fiber Mill was born! I now not only process blended fiber for myself, but also for other fiber breeders throughout the United States and Canada. I love the colors of the ever changing seasons and taught myself how to use commercial dyes on my rovings and yarns. One year, my Navajo friend and master weaver, Roy Kady, came to visit and he shared his abundant knowledge of gathering and dyeing with Montana's natural plants. I now travel and teach hand carding, hand spinning, and natural dyeing to whom ever asks. I am so blessed to live in the wilds of Montana where I can still reflect on times past, today's accomplishments and tomorrow's challenges.
