A Collection of Fine Handcrafted Jewelry for Every Emotion, Everyday, Everywhere.

Welcome to Melanie Golden Metalsmith! My work has been seen featured on BuzzFeed. My collection of handmade jewelry is designed and created by me, Melanie Golden, in my home studio in Odessa, Texas.

Melanie Golden Metalsmith is a result of my never-ending creativity. I have what I like to call ‘busy-hands’, and I always need to be working on something, whether it is writing my latest novel, shooting some awesome photography, or making jewelry.

My interest in the jewelry and gemology fields was sparked in 2009 when I cleaned out my closet. This might sound like a strange occourance, but I feel like that moment really changed my life for the better. I ran across some old crafting supplies of seed beads and stretch cord and I excitedly set them aside to explore later. That evening I created my first piece of jewelry—a horribly crafted necklace! From that point on, I couldn’t get enough, and making jewelry quickly became my new favorite pastime.

Nearly every weekend I would explore the craft stores here in the oil-boom town of Odessa, Texas looking for new beads and components—I found myself drawn to the shimmering strands of gemstones. Eventually, stringing beads on cord became too simple and I experimented with new techniques—I even tried crocheting beads into necklaces, but that didn’t last long. I endlessly watched jewelry making tutorials online, read books and magazines, and experimented with new, sometimes disastrous techniques, and I found myself swooning over beautiful, delicate metalwork.

Soon, I began experimenting with base metals like brass and copper, and when I learned how to manipulate the metal, I expanded to sterling silver. I loved working with metal, it challenged me and enabled me to create more elaborate jewelry. However, metal alone was not quite enough for me and I soon taught myself how to set cabochons and small faceted gemstones in handmade settings.

Completely self-taught in jewelry design, I challenge myself daily by constantly learning and experimenting with new techniques. I found my passion in life, and I can’t imagine a world where I’m unable to create and learn. I have run my own small business since 2009 selling my handmade jewelry online. Because of the fact that I wanted to excel in selling my jewelry online, I attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division for my Associate of Science degree in Photography.

My collection of handmade jewelry is for every emotion, everyday, everywhere. I only use the finest materials available, such as genuine high-quality gemstones and precious metals such as sterling silver and gold. My jewelry is created with wearability in mind, so you'll never come across anything that is a one-time-piece, as I design all jewelry for everyday wear.

Frequently asked questions

Prevent Jewelry Tarnish

The best way to prevent tarnish is actually to wear the jewelry often--the skin contact keeps the silver from tarnishing. When not wearing the jewelry, you should store your silver jewelry either in the box your jewelry arrived in or a protective, air tight pouch or bag. Avoid exposing your silver to household chemicals when cleaning, as these chemicals can damage silver. Care should also be taken to prevent silver tarnish build-up, a dulling that naturally occurs when silver reacts with sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the ambient air. To clean your silver, use polishes or cloths formulated specifically to remove tarnish. Regular cleanings of all your silver jewelry will prevent tarnish and keep your silver bright and sparkling.

Ring Sizes

All of my rings are in standard USA ring sizes. I use extremely accurate sizing methods to get you the best possible fit. The most accurate way to find your true ring size is by visiting a local jeweler so that they can measure you. However, there are also alternative methods such as printable ring sizers available on the internet. If you live outsize of the USA, ring sizes will be different. If you know your ring size, there are conversion charts available online to help you find your USA ring size.

What is Gold Fill?

Gold-filled jewelry, also known as "rolled gold", is composed of a solid layer of gold bonded with heat and pressure to brass. Gold-filled items, even with daily wear, can last up to 30 years. Gold-filled items are 50 times thicker than regular gold plating.

Customs Duties & Fees

Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing which countries and cities/towns choose to charge taxes and customs fees. This is usually on a case-by-case basis, depending on where you live. Anything purchased abroad is subject to being charged customs/duties fees. Generally, a customs fee is charged for processing an import declaration.

Production & Shipping Timelines

All jewelry is handmade-to-order, unless otherwise stated on the item page. Production time takes around 3-7 business days to be completed. Orders are completed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Ready-to-ship products will be shipped within 1-3 days of placing your order.

Domestic packages (within the USA) are shipped via USPS First Class mail with a tracking number for your convenience. Standard Domestic shipping takes about 3-5 days for delivery. Shipping upgrades are available on the checkout screen. International orders (outside the USA) are shipped via USPS First Class International Mail. Standard International shipping takes about 2-6 weeks for delivery. Shipping upgrades are available on the checkout screen.

Sales Tax

Orders places in Texas, USA, will be charged 8.25% sales tax.

What is that small piece of black paper in my order?

With every order I ship, I place a small black anti-tarnish tab inside of the jewelry box. All jewelry, no matter the quality, is prone to tarnish from sitting in the ambient air. To help prevent this, I include this tab with your order to help you keep your jewelry looking beautiful. You can store your jewelry in the box it arrived in with the tab to keep tarnish away. Anti-tarnish tabs provide protection against tarnish for up to 12 months. Tarnish-causing elements are absorbed without emitting damaging gases. These tabs will not leave deposits on jewelry items and are non-toxic and non-abrasive.

See my FAQ "Prevent Jewelry Tarnish" for more information on preventing tarnish.

About My Photography

I do my best to photograph and describe my jewelry as accurately as possible. In no way would I ever knowingly misrepresent any items that I sell. I use a macro lens so you are able to get a closer look at the jewelry detail and color, so some items may appear larger than they actually are in the photos. Additional photos are available for most pieces showing the jewelry held or worn on a models hand to help you get a better idea of the size of the jewelry. Also, all sizes and measurements are listed under the item description. Please remember, your monitor color settings may be different than mine, so colors could possibly appear slightly different. I use very accurate white balance settings to show you the most realistic colors possible.
