I use early 2000's punk rock / emo culture to design custom pinatas.
The idea to start creating my first pinata was walking down the aisles of Party City. I was shopping for decorations for my step-mom's 60th birthday and looking for things that fit: 'bling-bling', spiders, and hot pink. After I filled up my basket with random 60th birthday decor, I noticed the pinatas and said "I can make a pinata, I don't need to buy one." I am that person.
From there, I started down the paper mache pathway to create my first pinata, a giant black spider. I had so many laughs along the way making this giant spider that spanned 4ft. x 4ft. Who else is going to say they have a giant spider pinata in their closet? (Note: the spider pinata, Glenda, had to live in my closet for a few months for protection from my 2 ginger cats)
It comes time for the 60th birthday party where I surprised my step-mom with my handiwork. It brought her so much joy that she refused to let anyone touch it, yet alone crack it open, therefore it now lives in her apartment. Dead serious.
I wanted to create emo pinatas as I am a 90's millennial myself who still loves the emo / punk music genre. My quirky pinatas take us back to what was 'in' to wear or style our hair. For adults such as myself, to celebrate an occasion with a pinata that matches who we are as people. EMO is not dead.
