Had a great experience working with Darla. She is very responsive, creative, and really listens to your feedback. I worked with her on 2 projects, and would recommend her as a designer.

My prices translate roughly into hourly rates. My current hourly rate is $16/hour. My prices reflect the average time/cost it has taken to design for clients in the past for that particular project. In the event we need more time due to excessive revisions, I will ask my client to purchase additional design time hours available in my shop. I do not accept rush jobs at this time.
All purchases are delivered via email as ready to print/use as digital files.
Refunds and Exchanges
Graphic design takes ALOT of research and creative brainstorming before the actual design is even started. If we determine a need to quit working on a job you hired me for, I can only refund you the hours I DIDNT work.
Additional policies and FAQs
Keeping it Clear....

1. What is a COMP?
A composition or 'comp/comps' are visual ideas for your design. Based on the project and information you provide, I create 1-3 comps to show you my design direction. This gives you the opportunity to tell me we are either on the right track and you are liking what you see so far - or we need to try a different direction. My goal is to get in your head and represent what I feel you are hopeful for. I rely heavily on the information, details (and examples) you give and show me in our conversations. Each of my listings details how many comps you will receive with that purchase. Additional comps are available.
FYI - A common occurrence in the composition phase is to ask everyone you know what they think. DONT! Its okay to ask your spouse or best girlfriend, but ideally we want the public (strangers) to like it - right? So...ask strangers! Choose people who fit in your ideal target audience and ask them if they like the design - why, and why not? Trust me when I say - if you ask everyone you know - EVERYONE will have an opinion and it just makes matters more confusing and stressful for you!

2. What is a REVISION?
All of my designs offer revisions or 'rounds' of revisions within reason. So what is a revision? Put simply, it is a small change. Simple changes include font, content errors, colors, backgrounds, graphics, and layout. Requests to change wording, or position of a design element, delete an ingredient, color change.....are all acceptable revisions. Instead of putting a specific number of revisions on a project, I prefer to work as stress free as possible with my client to use the quality of time they paid for.
WHAT A REVISION IS NOT: Revision does not mean start over three times, so we have three different designs to choose from. In the event I totally bomb out on a design presentation, I most likely will offer you either a second choice (at my expense) or offer a refund if I think we arent connecting design wise.

3. PLAN AHEAD and be PREPARED to MAKE DECISIONS! I ask alot of questions and I may show you some color palettes or patterns, some vector art or fonts and I hope that you will feel free to show me some inspirations too! Your involvement is extremely important in the design process. Knowing ahead of time how you will print a project is just as important as how big a label needs to be.

4. TIMELINES and SCHEDULES. My most recent and current clients have the priority spotlight on my agenda for up to three weeks. When a client hires me to begin a project with them, I set aside time for them every work day until the project is complete as long as we are having steady communication. I actually only work part time (about 20 hours a week) because I am a full time caregiver to my disabled husband. The key to getting thru your project smoothly is to keep in touch! If I see we havent spoken in several days or a week I will contact you.

Life happens...I get it! If you know you are having a baby, or taking a vacation..just let me know. You will stay on my schedule before your 'leave' and be put back on my schedule when you 'return'. If you suddenly get sick, your computer crashes and you cant let me know your intentions - thats understandable too but the best I can do is work you in at my earliest convenience to finish our project when you are ready to come back. I do have limits however....a project must be completed within a reasonable timeline of 3 months.

5. What is a LOGO? (I know this is nit-picky but this happened to me before!)
A Logo is a branding for a company. Ideally, your logo should leave a memorable impression so that when people see it. Many of my customers come to me without a logo. And that is ok - you can still start your projects - but if the listing you purchase does not include a logo design, I am not designing one! Font choices are essential to good design no matter what the project - be it a label design, flyer or facebook banner. But know that the font, and whatever little embellishment I might put with it - is NOT an attempt at a logo. It's just your name and part of the project design.

Do you know where you will print your brochure?
Do you already know where you will buy/print your labels? Do you know what sizes you need? Are you planning to buy blank ones and print yourself? Are you planning to take the files into Staples and let them do their magic? Will you be using avery templates? These are VERY IMPORTANT things I need to know up front about label design! Changing your printing plans after a project has been finished will add design time to your bill because I will have to resize things!

If you need a few resources for blank labels and other printing services....I can help:)

SIZE and LAYOUT. What size labels do you need? I get this question alot! Unfortunately, I dont know the answer because I dont have your containers to measure them! Some companies that sell containers will give you a suggested label prepared to give me that information. Another common misunderstanding is orientation. Is it horizontal or vertical? Not everyone uses the same terminology such as 'width' and 'height'. Some say 'long', 'deep', or 'tall'. Its important to know that I always read dimensions in w x h. So, if you tell me you need a label 4 x 2 are going to get a horizontal rectangle that is 4 inches wide at the bottom and 2 inches tall in height. I cant tell you how frustrating it is to spend several hours on a beautiful label design and my client say, "no..the other way!"

I am comfortable handling up to 6 clients at a time and most projects are complete within 1-3 weeks at the most. Please plan ahead. If you know you have a show next month NOW is the time to get labels designed! It might take me 1-3 weeks, and then printing could take another week, plus your time to label your products. I do not work under rushed conditions and being that stressed out is unfair to you as well!

I realize emails are impersonal and lack emotion and I wish I could talk to all of my clients face to face or over the phone but unfortunately I have the gift of gab. I confess Im a chatterbox....I could easily spend 2 hours on the phone with you or more.....and would enjoy every minute of it! but.....
The main reason I avoid phone consults is because my husband has severe dementia and he makes ALOT OF NOISE! Its very difficult for me to give my undivided attention to others with his interruptions.

9. COLOR -
In the design world there are different modes of color depending on the project you are designing. Web graphics and anything digital uses RGB and HEXADECIMAL color modes, while print jobs use CMYK or PANTONE colors. Dont rely on your email preview for color approval. Since email is RGB is everything attached to it in preview! What you initially see could be frightening! but ...If you download the attachments I send first, then open them in a viewer, the proper color mode is retained. Take the time to test print files I send to you as well. This will help you make decisions about color choices and give you a better idea of what to expect.

Frequently asked questions

How long will my project take?

Graphic design takes alot of imagination, resource and inspiration time, communication and development before production is achieved. I goal to complete projects within 1-3 weeks depending on the intensity of the project as each varies in the number of hours expected to complete. I work part time, and work with 1-3 clients a day until their project is complete. The home page of my shop announces the next 'start date'. That is the day we will discuss your project and the stages of the design process will begin after purchase.
