Red Abstract Glass Hanging Sculpture - Ornament
$60.00
Working on Tropical Fish Ornaments in the studio today. This one is just about finished, it still needs a tail fin!
Blue Moon Implosion Cabichons
I made all of these using the same glass and different torch settings. Notice how the one on the left is lighter than the one on the right.. the glass changes depending on fuel, temperature and heat saturation. Cool huh?

About

Through the Fire: A Glass Artists Journey

I started using glass as a medium in the early 90's while I was living on Maui. I apprenticed for three years in a local gallery, learning the flameworking trade from an experienced artist. It was a great adventure with many funny stories as we worked and laughed and shared in front of a live audience. After three years I moved into my own private studio and so began the journey.

I was addicted to the art of the flame from the very first day. I have worked in many other mediums but nothing compares to this very hot, molten, translucent art form.

For most of my career I created sculptures that represent my love of the sea. I grew up on the beach in Southern California, lived for 13yrs in Hawaii then off to the Florida coast for a few years. I spent a lot of time in the ocean diving with the sea life.

At the moment I am working in three different areas; One of a kind beads and jewelry, nature inspired sculpture and contemporary abstract. I am equally passionate about all three.

Over the last 20+ years my work has been shipped to many parts of the world through various galleries like..

● Kittrell Riffkind Gallery

●The Village Gallery

● Lahaina Art Society

● Maui Ocean Center

● And in person at Juried Art Shows

For the last six years I have sold most of my work online at MorningLightGlass.com and Etsy. I have gallery representation at Artful Home during the Ornament Season and most recently at M.A.Doran Gallery.

The beautiful thing about selling online is having the freedom to create and work from my home, having time to play and hike with my dogs, and the ability to connect with people from all over the world. I meet new people daily and have made great friends and lifelong customers. Unlike being in a brick and mortar store, which I have owned, I can have a conversation with someone from Slovakia and right down the street in the same morning. I love that! I love being able to connect with so many people from so many walks of life, creating custom pieces for their home, selecting a special cabochon for their upcoming jewelry project or finding just that right gift for a special anniversary.

I use only high quality, borosilicate glass (think pyrex - it's hard durable glass) a digital kiln for annealing and a few graphite tools. That's it.. the rest is all handcrafted.

For my jewelry I use sterling silver combined with the frit glass implosion cabochons that I create. Each one is a one of a kind, they can never be duplicated exactly. And isn't that awesome, cause who wants to wear the same thing as everyone else? Not me! I like being an original and I'm sure you do too!

So where do I get my ideas for sculptures? All around me. It's in the morning dew glistening on the grass, the movement of the river that flows in my back yard, the intricate patterns of the tiny wild flowers that nestle in the meadow pasture, the sound of the wind blowing in the trees and my vivid imagination of days spent on the water.

Glass is one of the most beautifully challenging of all the mediums I have worked with.. It's also very addicting.. There is something so captivating about the feel of it, at the end of my rod, in it's molten state, dancing in the flame of my torch.

Frequently asked questions

How Do you Protect the Glass For Shipping?

All my Sculptures come wrapped in Tissue Paper as a first layer, then bubble wrap as a second layer and possibly peanuts or shredded paper as a third layer then properly placed in a protective box that will ensure the item arrives in perfect condition to the customer.

Care instructions

Use a soft, lint free cloth and your favorite glass cleaner to make your sculpture shine! Or try Eco friendly white vinegar, that's what I use!
