From our studio on the banks of the Housatonic River we say “Greetings” and a warm welcome to you.

In 1976 Diane Mostrom-Chase and Fred Chase started their own small weaving studio in Newburyport MA with little more than two hand looms, some yarns and a good idea. The idea thought to be their own has been shown to be your “good idea” as well: that useful objects, honestly and beautifully crafted by caring hands, do have a place in all of our daily lives.

After many years in Newburyport, their business took them to the roots of traditional American craft in the mountains of Western North Carolina. After a nine year adventure in the Smokey Mountains they relocated to the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts. The Berkshires have for years sheltered in their soft snowy valleys numerous artists, sculptors, writers and musicians all seeking that same rare treasure- a little quiet. We have found some here, as well.

Today, Diane and Fred, along with their daughter Emily, are thankful for the many friends and customers, like yourself whose continued interest in our work has made it mutually successful.

We weave a variety of functional textiles to meet both traditional and contemporary needs. All of our work is individually woven on hand operated looms. We are self taught but have never felt alone in our personal connection to these artisans from the past. Our pride and workmanship, patience, skill, and effort make each and every piece unique.

The types of weaving we make include; Wool Coverlets, Blankets, Throws, Tablemats and Runners, Cotton Bedspreads, Lacey Shawls and Scarves in many colors.

Here on Etsy, you will find a selection of handwoven, Chenille and cotton scarves. The Chenille yarn we use for our scarves is noted for it’s velvety soft and luminous appearance and the wide range of vibrant colors available.

A weft of rayon chenille is handwoven on a black cotton warp, knotted, washed and expertly finished creating a scarf measuring approximately 11″x 70″. Each is woven in either a single color or our popular tri-color. A new addition are our scarves woven through a white cotton warp, for a softer look.
