Announcement   Mothy and the Squid specialises in rainbows, brightly coloured sock yarn and miniskeins. My name is Jillian and I am the resident indie dyer, inspired by natures beauty to create vibrant coloured premium quality yarn. I mission is to ensure each skein is a visual and tactile delight to knit or crochet with and produces bright beautiful finished objects.

I usually create with sock yarn, but if you would like to see a colourway on a different weight or yarn base please ask. I love to do custom orders and I don't charge extra for them.

I also stock original knitting patterns for download and fun stitch markers. Follow us on Instagram @jillian.gabrielsen for the latest updates, giveaways and discount codes!

I offer a yarn caking service if desired. This adds 24h to the dispatch time. The listing for my caking service is here:
www.etsy.com/uk/listing/265557950 . There are a very few items I don't routinely cake (tiny miniskeins and sock blanks). Please contact me before ordering if you have a special request.

About

Once upon a time there was a girl who loved rainbows and luxury yarn but she couldn't find exactly what she wanted so she became an indie dyer.

I rediscovered knitting after a long gap a few years ago and my needles haven't stopped clicking since. Unable to find the perfect rainbow on my favourite premium yarn base I went on to dye my own wool.

Before I knew it my hobby was out of hand and had become a small business helping support my family. My husband says I am not allowed to start spinning or he will come home from work one day and find the garden full if sheep. This fear is entirely justified!

I also run an after school knitting club at our local primary school as I believe knitting is a wonderful hobby for children to learn as it has many benefits. If you are interested to learn more about the project please read: www.gofundme.com/knitafterschool .

Returns and exchanges
I offer full refunds upon safe return of your order. If I am at fault I will reimburse return postage costs but if I am not then the buyer is responsible for these. Please contact me beforehand so a course of action can be agreed.

You must return the item in the condition you received it in and you should not expose it to cats or their environment as one member of our family is dangerously allergic. If you have cats, simply keep your returns safely in the packaging they arrived in until you post them back and they will be absolutely fine.

**Please do not ask to return things you have USED. Seriously, that’s not nice!!**
Payment
You can use any payment method accepted by Etsy. If you need to cancel an order please contact me as soon as possible and I will oblige. If you are overseas you are responsible for any import taxes incurred.
Shipping
All UK orders go first class within 24 hours and usually arrive within two to three working days. You can upgrade to guaranteed next day delivery if you wish. Claims of non receipt may be made on the 15th day after dispatch and not before. However, I obtain tracking information for some domestic orders so please ask if your order is delayed as I should be able to help you find it.

Overseas orders are sent via airmail and take two to six weeks. Please allow extra time during the run up to Christmas! You can upgrade to international tracked and signed (from five days) for only the actual cost of that service. Claims of non receipt for standard airmail should not be made until 25 working days after postage, until that time an order is considered delayed only. By purchasing you are agreeing to these policies.
Additional policies and FAQs
Please do not ask me to combine orders or to apply retrospective discounts. You are agreeing to the sale price when you pay.

Frequently asked questions
Would I like to donate some yarn to you?

No, I’d like you to buy some yarn!

Wholesale availability

Wholesale prices are 2/3 retail prices plus postage with a minimum purchase of 20 skeins or equivalent weight of yarn.

Care instructions

Almost all my yarn is superwash treated, so you can use the wool cycle on your washing machine, although hand washing is kinder if you have the time.

I choose acid dyes rated “wash fast” or “very wash fast” at 30*C, and I test wash each colourway. Nonetheless it is sensible to wash items separately on the first occasion as with any fibre or garment.

If you put my yarn in on long hot washes with fast spins, harsh detergents and stain remover they will age and fade much faster. This is not my fault, wool is like that, and you make your choices.
