Announcement   Quality Artisan Irish Crafts from West Cork – my silk scarf designs are inspired by nature and a sense of place and landscape in which I live, all are hand painted and original.

I love playing with colours and I am influenced by West Cork light, which continually alters. The moods of my work change with the cycle of seasons, and plants growing in the garden and wild in the hedgerows.

I am currently finding a new freedom in my designs, each scarf is an original, and they are never the same even if the same colours are used - they are all artisan made by myself. Factors such as temperature and humidity will affect each design to produce an individual piece.

I am a proud member of the Etsy Ireland Team!

This was a gift and the recipient was delighted. She particularly commented on the presentation and attention to detail. I shall have no hesitation in purchasing another scarf.

About

Have Paintbrushes, Love Silk!

I just love the feel of silk - it is luxurious, satiny, cossetting, tactile, strong, sexy, and cool in summer, warm in winter. I love wearing silk - it is very wearer-friendly!

I grew up in home full of drawing, painting, weaving, spinning, and all sorts of exciting things to dabble in craftwise. My painting style was not precise, or orderly, so when I fell into a silk painting course, I just knew that Silk and I were going to get along ... silk has it's own mind about the how the colours will settle. And I usually let it!

Add to that vibrant colours, which I mix, and blend, colours which reflect the shine of Ponge or Habotai Silk, or the texture of Crepe Georgette. The eco-friendly colours I use are so brilliant, or they can be soft and pastel shaded,or muted, it is all in the mixing.

Finally, there is inspiration outside of my windows, colours, skies, bird feathers, leaves, wild flowers, ferns, or the particular shades of light as a sunray crosses over the mountain, seasons, fruit, rain, and along the road - seashore, waves, clouds and the whole myriad of Irish landscapes in between.

The are quite a few processes I must go through, designing, putting on a frame, layout, maybe outlining, maybe batik, maybe a modern style of Shibori or folding, always steaming to set the paints, washing , ironing. Admiring ... and giving the scarf a name. I usually know what it wants to be called!

The last part of the process is photographing the scarf in an ideal situation - I love to use my garden for this but sometimes there is a battle between the silk and the wind, because we do live near the Atlantic Ocean. So if you see the odd 'hand' creeping into the photo you will know why!

I would like you to see my scarves as a happy, contented accessories, which you will love to wear and be proud of ...
