I started selling fish-themed greeting cards
Sì, l'ho fatto. Nel 2008 ho ricevuto un lotto di sessanta cartoline di Natale a tema pesce stampate da una tipografia locale e ho costretto la mia famiglia e i miei amici a comprarle. Ho pensato che fossero divertenti.
Dopo un po 'non ho avuto bisogno di costringere le persone a comprarli - la gente ha iniziato a comprarli da soli, il che è stato sorprendente.
Con i soldi che ho fatto da ogni lotto di carte, ho effettuato ordini più grandi di carte, introducendo ogni volta nuovi disegni. E con ogni lotto che ho ordinato, sono rimasto altrettanto sorpreso di come avevo venduto tutto il lotto precedente.
Alcuni disegni erano terribili, e alcuni non erano così terribili. Mi è piaciuta la maggior parte di loro, e la mia stampante probabilmente pensa che io sia assolutamente pazzo.
È andata molto così, davvero. Ho lasciato il mio lavoro quotidiano nel 2011, mi sono sposato nel 2013, ho avuto una figlia nel 2014 e ho comprato una casa nel 2015. La nostra famiglia felice vive nel sud di Manchester e faccio del mio meglio per destreggiarmi tra essere una mamma e gestire un'azienda. Yeah, I did that. In 2008 I got a batch of sixty fish-themed christmas cards printed by a local printer and forced my family and friends to buy them. I thought they were funny.
After a while I didn't need to force people to buy them - people started buying them on their own, which was surprising.
With the cash I made from each batch of cards, I placed larger orders of cards, introducing new designs each time. And with each batch I ordered, I was equally as surprised at how I had sold all of the previous batch.
Some designs were terrible, and some were not so terrible. I liked most of them, and my printer probably thinks I'm absolutely bonkers.
It went much like that, really. I quit my day job in 2011, got married in 2013, had a daughter in 2014 and bought a house in 2015. Our happy family lives in South Manchester and I do my best at juggling being a mom and running a business. It works most of the time and I owe etsy a big thank you for helping me get where I am now - sharing work and hobby and motherhood as one.
