The starting point is vague, I had to contact to seller and they sent a diagram to help. Still had to count out rows and columns to a point I picked to start. I bought my own colors to use that worked in my space. Once I got started, it comes together well. Perfect project to keep my mind busy during surgical recovery. Do yourself a huge favor and print the pattern instructions in high quality color. Don't try to do this from a black and white printed instruction. Also notice some of the photographed images in the instructions may be chopped off by 2 stitches so can throw you off so be aware of this ahead of time. Got the pdf pattern very quickly and questions to seller were answered next day.

This download was a complete and thorough kit. The directions and the pictures to go with them were clear.
