About

Always growing

My work is a reflection of what I see in the world in my own interpretation. I think we are all struggling in some way to make sense of all the strangeness of the world. Every absurdity together in the same arena; trash with nature, the sweet with the grotesque, the horrible with the beautiful. As people we see these dichotomies, we are appalled or we are delighted, perhaps both in turn.
In my own way I am trying to come to terms with all the horribleness as well as all the wonderfulness that makes up life.

Yeah but.. why all the miniatures?

Of course there is the economy of making a small thing and the tedious challenge of making a small thing. I think this is why I started small, back when I used to fill stacks of sticky notes with tiny drawings.
But also, I like the idea that the little things, the microcosm, is the same- has the same dynamics, the same problems, the same struggles and victories- as the macrocosm. Every little thing is a looking glass into the bigger picture.

Mulch..What..?

Mulchkin is a word I made up from two existing words Mulch -a material used to enrich soil, usually made from decaying organic matter and Kin- which I use here to mean something that is similar in nature.
I like the idea that everything is a part of a larger cycle- that we all come from something larger than ourselves and that we can be reborn again.

To me it means recycle, rebirth and renewal, growth from decay, new from old.

This word was chosen to describe my creative process as well as my preference for re-using and re-purposing... whether I'm using old cardboard for paintings, found wood for sculpture or saving bubble wrap for my packaging.

Additional policies and FAQs
REMEMBER that while I do my best to accurately picture each item as it appears in person, every computer screen will read color slightly differently.

Please keep in mind that artwork should not be placed in direct sunlight, as this can (over time) cause the colors to fade. Even with pieces that have UV resistant varnish.

Please do not use solvents or other harsh chemicals to clean any of the small sculpture, as they have been sealed with professional acrylics only.
Use plain water and gently wipe, then allow to completely dry.
I cannot guarantee anything else will not damage the item.

As for the paintings and other mixed media I will always try to explain in the listing how it is sealed, however, in general:
Paper goods such as collages, watercolors and drawings are generally sealed with a professional canned spray fixative.
Acrylic paintings unless otherwise stated will be sealed with a professional acrylic medium and then professionally varnished.
I am careful to try to use only professional glues, gessoes, paints, sealants and varnishes. I try to use UV Resistant varnishes when I can.

None of my items are made with the intention of being a toy for small children, all include delicate parts or materials which would not be suited for young recipients.

Purchase of an item does NOT include the copyright- artwork may not be reproduced without written permission from the artist (me).
I reserve the right to reproduce my own artwork at any time.

I am currently not doing custom orders or wholesale.
With the exception of the Matchbook Notebooks (with a limit of 50 or less at a time and a preferable notice time of at least 4 weeks).

I currently live with one dog.
