Watching and listening are my super powers
My name is Murphy Adams and mostly I'm a painter, but I also love to hand-build with clay and sew and do embroidery. I guess my work is about emotion, the everyday struggle of being human. Life is somewhat of a hilarious mess, and I think I’m just trying to make some sense out of it. My paintings are narrative little stories, that I've culled from simply watching and listening, I think it's my super power. I take my intel and visually process it with acrylics, gouaches, colored inks and pencils on paper or wood and also make the occasional odd clay piece and am recently into embroidered paintings with thread. I use both hands to create with as I'm most comfortable with imperfection; symmetry and staying inside the lines makes my anxious. I’m drawn to American folk art, visionary and outsider artists and narrative works of art.
When I'm not making art I make pies, grow vegetables and talk to dogs. I show my original paintings and sculptures in several galleries, my prints and greeting cards are available in many amazing retail locations and I also do some freelance illustration as well as handmade tile and mosaic work for public and private clients. I live in Northern California with a nutty professor of a husband, a bunch of rescue critters and 2 almost fully cooked children who desperately need to move out.
