Artist Statement

My work is a celebration of the creative genius of nature and humankind. It’s dedicated to preserving the manifestations of that genius, and it’s employed in my related advocacy.

My images and prints reflect rigorous standards of technical excellence, minimalist elegance, painterliness, and compelling composition. Art, in addition to rareness, is mystery and complete freedom, so in my way I avoid technical rhetoric: I’m more lyrical than empirical. The foundation of my work is my compositional skill, which is intuitive.

Overall, my subjects and artistic vision reflect broad interests, so I produce a diversity of nature, landscape, travel, decor, and fine art.

Career Summary

My photography began in my teens during the film era, via tutelage and high school coursework. Then, practicalities forced an interruption to it for decades. Aspiring to the virtuosity of the fictional baseball prodigy Roy Hobbs in the film “The Natural,” I felt a bit like him, returning after a long absence to an instinctive vocation.

In the meantime, technology had disrupted photography more profoundly than it had baseball. I embraced the digital revolution and soon found success in retail, starting small with a line of greeting cards and a few self-published books on local topics, and some art prints.

For a time, I operated my own brick-and-mortar gallery in Tubac, Arizona, USA. I began publishing regular articles in 2007 on local travel, nature, photography, and other topics in the Tubac Villager newspaper, which is ongoing.

Since most of my subjects involve nature, I’ve earned the attention of some conservation groups and collaborate with them on several publications, including books.

Expanding to a global market, in 2008 I accelerated selling art prints and licensing of selected images on the internet, where I’ve focused my growing outreach ever since.

Shop policies

My goal is to delight each customer with complete satisfaction!

All of my artwork is printed on the very best, heavy 100% cotton fine art matte photo paper, using archival pigment inks. I print everything personally except for the very largest sizes. I ensure perfection in the print using meticulous color management, including gamut control, soft-proofing, hardproofing, and final inspection. Sometimes, the color range of an image may require a different art paper. Finally, I expertly preservation-coat all of my prints before shipment to deter soiling and provide additional protection against fading, adding decades of life to my fine art.

All prices in this shop are for the print only, unless specified otherwise. All prints come with a white border.

Please convo me, or email me at murray [!at] cactushuggers.com or phone 520-241-1280 with any purchase questions.

Shipping
Shipping charges are estimated, covering all packaging materials (protective backing, water resistant cellophane sleeve, protective mailer, etc.) and postage charges to your address via USPS Priority class, primarily. Shipping times are approximate and depend on the specific item, indicated in the item information.

Shipping charges are inexact due to Etsy's system of product size variations. If actually shipping+packaging charges are significantly less than what I charge, I will issue a refund for the difference upon shipment. If actual costs are more than I charge at the time of sale, I will absorb the loss myself.

To minimize the chance of damage, my art prints are shipped flat except for the very largest ones, which will probably be shipped rolled in a tube. In this case, a de-rolling process will be required before mounting the artwork, either by letting the print lie flat for a period, or by using professional de-rolling equipment. Careful handling is required for all unpackaged prints.

Important: international customs taxes, duties, and related charges are the responsibility of the buyer.

Prints come with a page of my personal tips on presentation and framing.
Refunds and Exchanges
My generous warranty is as follows -

1) If there is damage to the artwork in shipping to your address, the artwork will be replaced for free.

2) Standard orders: If you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason you can return it for a refund or exchange for up to ONE YEAR from date of purchase. Your refund will include return shipping costs. The only condition is that, unless damaged as in #1 above, the artwork must be received by me in perfect as-new condition.

3) I reserve the right to rescind item #2 above, in specific circumstances, if I feel this policy is being abused.

4) Custom Orders: For custom sizes and framed print orders, my guarantee is limited to replacement of the item due to damage in shipment only.
Additional policies and FAQs
Your art print may appear slightly different from that which you see on the screen. This is due to tonality (color, brightness, contrast) varying between screens.

I have many more compelling images not shown. Just ask me about a particular subject!

Custom sizes are my pleasure to provide. The dimensions of many images can be altered as well (for example, rectangular images can become square in some instances.) Just convo me.
