Family Fashion made with Love

But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” – Luke 16-17

ABOUT US:
My name is Barbara, mother of 3 beautiful premature children. Born and raised in the beautiful country of Ghana, West African. I grew up watching and helping my uncle and grandmother sewing clothes for the entire family. We always wear matching outfits to express our unity and love. Mawusi (MAA-WU-SEE) the name means in God’s Hand and belongs to my last born. She was born 3 months early weighing only 2lbs. The doctors wanted to keep her in the Neonate Intensive Care Unit for 3 months because caring for a preterm baby is very challenging. Most premature births require long hospital stays for extensive monitoring for health issues that can arise. Although the hospital and most of the staff were great to us, I knew in my heart that being in the hospital for several months was not necessary nor the best thing for us. I had already raised two premature babies that were happy and healthy. I knew that God would show me how to convince the hospital staff that by being at home with us, she would be in the perfect environment to thrive. She’d be happy, healthy and grow with love.

Although her birth caused me health issues of my own, I had two other children to care for and I needed to work full-time, I wanted to stay at the hospital with her day and night. To clear my mind and relax I decided to take up an old hobby of sewing. While sitting in the room with her, I talked to her constantly and challenged myself to sew a new outfit for my baby each day until she could come home. With just a needle and thread, I made at least one dress for her everyday sometimes two. This made me happy and distracted my mind from worrying. I could also easily see with each dress she wore that she was growing and picking up weight of course the Dr. and nurses could tell too.

To my surprise, each time I made a new dress for my daughter, not only did she receive tons of compliments but the hospital staff and other residents wanted to know where I purchased her dresses. When I told them they were hand sewn by me, I was told by everyone that I had a real talent and should make a career out of sewing. I received request to make outfits for others and I would smile because everyone could tell my clothing was made with such love.

My daughter continued to grow and months sooner then the Dr.’s expected, she was ready to come home. After being discharged, we could not find any daycare for her due to her size. A dear friend and his wife helped care for her so that I could return to work but we knew this was only a temporary arrangement and I needed a permanent care taker for her.

To earn extra money, I decided to place all of the outfits she could no longer wear on ESTY and EBay. I had also begun to make matching clothing sets for myself and my other two children for special occasions, pictures and holidays. As I listed the outfits we no longer wore online, I started to get special request orders from people who had special occasions or events to attend. Everyone fell in love with the matching outfits and I knew that this was something unique.

I would work full-time during the day, then come home care for my three children and work all night to get the orders I was receiving for matching clothing sewn and out to my customers. This was one of the most challenging times of my life.

But God is good and within months of my daughter coming home from the hospital, the online sales were so dramatic I knew that it was time for me to quit my full-time job. I knew that no daycare would be as dedicated to caring for my three children and give them the time and attention they needed like I would. I knew that no company would be as committed to making my customers happy with the special clothing and unique look they wanted with quality and care like I would.

I have been blessed to make an income doing the work that I love the most since 2014 now and I have never looked back!

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
