My Dear Elephant
My mother was the first one to inspire my love of sewing. I loved going to the fabric store with my mom to select patterns and fabric. From my first school dress to bridesmaid's dresses for my wedding, we enjoyed the process.
My daughter has also been an inspiration. I have done nothing more enjoyable than making things for her. From her first dress to prom dresses, I have enjoyed the process.
However, there is one lady who taught me the love of the process and the pleasure of sewing for others like none other. She is the inspiration for the name of my shop. My husband's grandmother, who everyone called Dear, was a professional seamstress. She loved her art and practiced it meticulously. To sew with her was delightful and educational. From wedding dresses to kitchen curtains, she knew all the tricks and shared them with pleasure. She also had an affinity for elephants. Her sewing room was filled with elephants, mostly gifts from all those family members for whom she had made dresses for special occasions or patches for worn clothes.
And so... on a trip to the fabric store with my daughter when I began this endeavor she coined the name, My Dear Elephant.
