About

Vintage that makes you smile

I got married in 2010. I added a lot of vintage touches to our wedding. Our escort cards were adorned with vintage brooches for the ladies and vintage cufflinks for the gentlemen. Our invitations were vintage postcards from the boutique hotel on Florida's Gulf Coast. After the wedding, I realized how much I loved the hunt. Thrifting and My Forgotten Attic is currently a very part time operation but I would love to be able to make it a full time career. Now I just have to convince my husband that that is a great idea!

My first love is vintage clothing. I personally love the styles from the 50s and 60s, but I also pick up 70s and 80s items. I do love the pretty, classic dresses, but I love the wacky fashions most of all. Pyrex and other milk glass is my second vintage love. I recently thrifted half of the item I have been looking for for three years - Pyrex Balloons Chip & Dip. Thank you Goodwill for making my week with that one! At this rate, I should have the full set by 2016.

My general thrifting rule is, if it makes me smile, I put it in my cart. If it is still making me smile when I am done walking around, it comes home with me.

I handwash all kitchen items, and either hadwash, steam or dry clean all clothing items (unless otherwise noted) New old stock and dead stock items with tags attached are usually steamed. It is a one man show over here, I personally find all items, clean, wash, photograph (photography is obviously not one of my better skills!), pack and send all items.

My full time job is as a surgical nurse, but thrifting is my true love. It's almost therapeutic for me to roam up and down the aisles of local thrift stores looking for hidden treasures. I love clothes from the 50s and 60s and anything Pyrex.
