Trusting the Good Shepherd for His name's sake

About four years ago an interesting idea popped into my head. I wanted to make greeting cards. Not only greeting cards, but themed greeting cards. The image of a sheep continually nudged it's way into the creative space of my brain. A sheep? Why a sheep?? The verse Isaiah 53:6 accompanied the sheep: "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned-everyone-to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all." That was my answer. We like sheep. If I was going to use my creative ability, it was going to be used to continually bring recognition to the one who gave me the ability. So it began. Doodling, sketching, trial and error, lots of different versions until I settled on the sheep that are on the cards today.

I absolutely love cards. Love sending them, receiving them, and now creating them! It’s such a special way to let someone know they are on your mind. A hand written note telling them that they are loved and worth the time it takes to put thought to paper. Then to put that paper in an envelope, spend the money to stamp it, and place it in your mailbox. A small labor of love to spread some precious cheer!

For several years I have wanted to open an Etsy shop, but the time just never seemed right. I would get half way done with creating my profile, only to exit the page, leaving it incomplete. I doubted my ability, if anyone would even want one of my cards, was it good enough?? This is when I was given the name of my shop-My Good Shepherd- when I was reminded of Psalm 23: "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me' your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

In April 2019 I married an incredible man. After waiting on the Lord's timing for 29 years, I was given the precious gift of marriage at the age of 30. This is relevant I promise...because this man has an extraordinary calling. The calling of Pastor. "So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory." 1 Peter 5:1-4

Four years ago the Lord gave me the idea of sheep. 6 months ago I married a shepherd of the Lord's flock. How good it is to be lead by still waters, made to lie down in green pastures, and be led in paths of righteousness all for the sake of the Lord's name. Trusting Him in His plan and timing, remaining steady, standing firm on His promises brings Glory to His great name. Praise God that He lead and He made me to lie down. To Him be the Praise for the ability He gives me and the story He continues to tell through me.
