Announcement   Blue Willow is one of the classic chinoiserie patterns that developed in Europe in the late 18th century. Making and decorating porcelain in this manner originated in China. Europeans were fascinated with blue and white porcelain and developed several Asian inspired patterns called chinoiserie. Over the 250 years since its inception, many companies have produced a version of it and Blue Willow continues to be a popular pattern today. The plates above were made in England, Japan, the U.S., and the last has no mark so its origin is a mystery.

About

From old to new to old again

I grew up in a very small town in upstate New York. My family has been in that area for nearly 300 years. There's lots of old stuff! Old houses, old barns, and old everything in them. Because vintage and antique was the norm, new stuff was a real novelty and highly valued when I was a child.

But after I grew up, I moved away - and then I kept moving. I have moved about forty times. New got really old. I think all that moving really cemented my love for the vintage treasures I remembered from my childhood. More and more, I wanted to create a home with a sense of history, with connection to my past and my heritage. I have my grandfather's diaries, furniture made by my father-in-law, Spanish textbooks written a hundred years ago by a great-great uncle I never knew, my mother's sewing notions. I guess it's no surprise that I have a deep interest in genealogy.

My love affair with vintage housewares has grown until my own home cannot absorb all the things I find. When I go looking for vintage goods, I have a feeling of rescuing them. I want them to go to loving homes, to be used, preserved, appreciated. Maybe one of these treasures will make its home with you. ;-)

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
I gladly accept returns
Contact me within: 7 days of delivery
Ship items back within: 14 days of delivery
I don't accept exchanges or cancellations
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
I am careful to describe and photograph any faults I can find in a piece. If you have any questions about the condition of a piece, please convo me BEFORE placing your order.

* In order to facilitate an insurance claim in the event an item arrives damaged, I require photos of the damage before a refund can be given. Claims of damage, as well as photos of the item AND packaging, must be received by me within 7 days of the receipt of the item by the buyer.
* If you wish to return an item or items because you have changed your mind about your purchase, I will take the items back and refund your initial purchase price only, not the outgoing shipping. You must contact me within 7 days of receipt of the item and return within 14 days.
* Return shipping fees are the responsibility of the buyer, and all returns should be sent with a tracking number. Customers who return items without a tracking number do so at their own risk; items that are lost during return shipping are solely the buyer's responsibility.
* I recommend you insure your return shipment to protect you if it is lost or damaged during shipment. Refunds are given only as long as item is received in the same condition as when I shipped it to you. Items that are returned in a condition other than that in which they were sent out are not eligible for refunds.
Payment
I accept payment with credit cards, Etsy gift cards, and PayPal. If you are unsure if PayPal is the best option for you, Etsy has a helpful article here:

Shipping
I ship items within 1-3 days of receiving the order. I ship to addresses in the United States.

I refund shipping overages.

About your address:

If you are paying through Paypal, then it is best if your address on Etsy.com matches your address on PayPal. If you have two different addresses, please indicate to me which address you would like me to use for shipping.

Packaging

Many of the items I sell are breakable, so packaging them to prevent breakage during shipping is my first concern. I use USPS Priority Mail boxes whenever possible, or I re-use cardboard boxes, so you may see logos, tape, etc. from companies you recognize. Please recycle boxes and packing materials as appropriate.

Some items will be wrapped in bubble wrap, boxed, then placed in a larger box with more packing material. I have found this is the best way to keep the item safe. I feel comfortable packing some smaller breakable items in multiple layers of bubble wrap and a single box. I pack less fragile items in boxes or padded envelopes. Again, my goal is to get the item to you in the best condition possible.

Combined Shipping

If you order more than one item, I will combine into one box (if possible - some items can't be combined). I will then refund the difference between what you paid and actual costs. Please convo me if you have any questions.

Carrier

I use the United States Post Office (USPS).

Insurance

Priority Mail includes insurance but many other methods do not. I have recently started adding Shipsurance to fragile items. Please be aware that in order to make an insurance claim, you must provide me with photos of the packaging and the damaged item. If you do not send me those photos, I will not be able to make a claim and you will not receive a refund.

Condition of Vintage Items

Vintage items are, by definition, used items. Please know that you can expect to see signs of wear and age. I do my best to spot defects such as chips, cracks, stains, and tears and to show these issues in the photos of each item. I also describe the condition as clearly and honestly as I can. I never want you to be unpleasantly surprised when you receive a package from MyKitchenCupboard.

If you have any questions at all about the condition of an item, please convo me BEFORE buying the item. I can reserve the item for you for a short period while we are discussing it so you won’t lose the item if you decide to buy it. In addition, I may be able to send additional photos of any area you are particularly concerned about.
