Very nice item and very well made. The oak used for this piece is very distinctive. Love it.

Oh my gosh! So pretty! And not like the same old hair stick that everyone else has. I am a massive fan of not being like anyone else. THANK YOU!

About

Making Spoons With Mother Nature

Years ago, my uncle who was moving, offered me several pick up truck loads of wood from his shop. Having shared his love for wood and wood working I was eager to oblige. As the truck filled for the second time my uncle handed me a few irregular pieces of wood that where scraps for cabriole legs. "You can make spoons out of those" he told me. To which I scoffed at him, but took them anyway, knowing that cleaning out the wood pile was a mixed blessing.

After tripping over these impossible to stack chunks of wood for five years I decided to do just that. I made a spoon. I have not looked back since.

Having previously created miniature period reproduction furniture for use as jewelry boxes, this was a wonderful change. I have very much enjoyed the freedom of creation afforded me by the simplicity of a spoon. Further it was a wonderful opportunity to make use of all the wonderful and sometimes crazy natural wood formations. I could find both inspiration and materials simply by taking a walk in the woods. As time went on I became bolder with my choices, sometimes finding spoons in a decayed stump, or the root of a raspberry bush. I learned to work with nature to make wonderful creations out of wood that few others would give a second glance. I try to allow the natural shapes and form I see within the piece of wood to find a spoon rather than simply force it to conform to our idea of what a spoon should be. By working together with nature in this way, I am in a constant state of discovery. Each step of the way I see something new and wonderful!

Etsy is a wonderful way for me to share these works with people all over the world!

Please do not ever put your spoon or other wood products in a dishwasher. Clean with mild soap. Apply any food safe oil when the wood appears to become dry or if it loses it's luster. Olive oil will work just fine.
