About

Accentuating the femininity of the Western female, one waist at a time

The waist has always been my favourite part of the body. It has a beautiful shape so when I discovered waist beads I knew it was something that would stay with me.

Natiive was born out of a hobby, used to fill my time and feed my creativity. Originally I made waist beads for myself and to bring some variety to my very small collection.

Waist beads to me, are a way for women to adorn their bodies and have a secret piece of jewellery, something hidden which makes them feel beautiful. Something only they could choose to reveal to others. They are worn for a variety of reasons, some woman use them to gain a connection to their African and Indian roots.

My shop is sustained purely from my desire to create different waist beads and try out new designs. There have been many times before I opened the shop when I considered stopping and somehow ended up looking at beads and before I know it I'm designing again.

Many of the pieces I create are made to be aesthetically pleasing but others incorporate elements of different cultures around the world. I source and pull out interesting elements of a country's native culture and use it in my waist beads to tell a story

My favourite materials are glass and organic materials such as wood, horn, bone, shell and coral

Thank you for visiting my shop! I hope you find something you like. Please keep checking back as I'm always working on new pieces. Everything here is handmade by me and I'm always finding new ways to improve the quality and designs. Each piece is made with glass beads, clay, ceramic, metal or natural materials, I never use plastic!

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
I accept payment through Paypal only which provides security for both the buyer and seller. You do not need to have an account to use the service offered by Paypal.

All orders normal or custom must be cancelled within 24 hours

Waist beads are not shipped until payment clears. The status of your payment can be checked via Paypal. Usually it takes me no longer than 1-7 days to make the waist beads and a confirmation email will be sent with any additional tracking information.

Please bear in mind that e-cheques can take up to 9 days to clear.
Shipping
Currently I only ship to countries covered by RM Airsure and International Signed For but I can ship to other countries using a courier service. Airsure is a service which needs to be fully trackable therefore is not available everywhere. Int. Signed For is available everywhere but only certain locations will continue to scan items once they are passed over through customs and these countries are the only ones which I have listed. I am always striving to include more preset shipping locations so please keep checking back if you do not see your country listed or read on for courier information.

If I do not have your country listed with a shipment option please contact me to arrange shipping and prices. Courier prices start at roughly £30.00

Delivery Is estimated at 14 days locally and up to 60 days internationally although most items arrive within a week.

Waist beads are sent Royal Mail 2nd Class Recorded Signed For for national orders and Airsure or International Signed For internationally. All orders are insured

Please select Portugal if you live in Madeira or Azores and Spain if you reside in the Canary Islands or Balearics

I do try to ensure all of the natural materials I use can be legally imported into other countries but for waist beads with natural materials such as horn, shell and bone it's best to check with customs prior to placing an order. Any customs charges are the responsibility of the buyer. These appear to be the import allowances as of 2013

USA - no charge under $200 USD
Australia - no charge under $1000 AUD
EU - no charges
New Zealand - $400 NZD
Canada - $18 CAD

Airsure does not require a signature and is fully trackable. The locations I ship to using this method are:

Andorra, Azores, Australia, Austria, Azores, Balaeric Islands, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Canary Islands, Corsica Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Madeira, Monaco, Netherlands, Portugal, Rep. of Ireland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, New Zealand, USA

International Signed For requires a signature on delivery, the locations I ship to using this method are:

Argentina, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Gibraltar, Hungary, Japan, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia
Refunds and Exchanges
If for any reason you are unsatisfied with your item please contact me. I do not accept returns on waist beads as they are all custom made unless the piece arrives damaged or faulty.

If items arrive faulty please contact me for a return and refund or exchange. I do ask that requests for refunds are made within 7 days of receiving your item.

Waist beads which have been ordered in the wrong size are not a suitable reason for a return. These orders can be returned and remade at an additional charge and a return shipping fee.

Please use a trackable method of shipment to return waist beads or obtain proof of postage as I will not refund or replace items which get lost in transition during a return
Additional policies and FAQs
I do guarantee satisfaction but if for any reason you are not happy with your item please contact me before leaving feeback to resolve the issue.

I accept customs orders, so if there is any particular style, pattern or colour you desire and do not find I could make it for you.

I offer wholesale listings with a minimum order of 30 pieces. I also require proof of your shop and I do not offer sample products.
If you require a sample of the product before making a wholesale order you will have to place an order as an ordinary customer

FAQs

1. Where should my waist beads fall?

Traditionally children wore waist beads on the waist and women wore them closer to the hips however you can wear your waist beads wherever you like. The area of your belly closer to the hips is usually more comfortable than actually on the waist itself. Waist beads made with dangle charms are recommended to be fitted to hang loosely from the waist to avoid rubbing on the inside of trousers and skirts.

--------------

2. How do I measure my waist/hips for my order?

There are two ways to measure your waist for your waist beads. The easiest way is to get a measuring tape and measure loosely around the area you want you waist beads to fall. Loose measuring will allow for comfortable movement, breathing and slight changes in weight. The second way to measure is to use the waist and hip measurements from your top/blouse. Adding at least two inches onto your waist measurement or subtracting two inches from the hip measurement should give you a comfortable size in inches.

---------------

3. I cannot find my size on the listing's drop down list, does this mean you do not make waist beads in my size?

I make waist beads for all sizes and ages. I charge additional prices for extra inches on top of the maximum inches listed as it costs more to make bigger waist beads. I need to create custom listings for these sizes. Sizes less than 22 inches are not advertised as they are not common and the drop down list would be unnecessarily long. Please Request a Custom Item when ordering waist beads smaller than 22 inches and contact me for sizes bigger than the options listed.

----------------

4. Can I swim in my waist beads?

As long as the listing does not advise otherwise, it's OK to wear your waist beads whilst swimming. I'd advise removing them when in a chlorinated pool as the chemicals can affect the metal components of the pieces.

-----------------

5. How long does it take to make my waist beads?

Please refer to my policy on payment.

----------------

6. How long will it take for my waist beads to arrive?

Please refer to my policy on shipping

----------------

7. Can I return my waist beads for a refund?

I do not accept returns on waist beads as they are all custom made and I do not sell on used pieces. If, for any reason you are unsatisfied with you order please contact me via Etsy Conversation, or contact [!at] waistbeads.co.uk and I shall try to deal with the issue.

-----------------

8. Are there any other choices of clasps for my waist beads?

The most popular option is a lobster clasp but I also offer my own handmade copper S clasps, these are very strong and make a perfect alternative to ordinary lobster clasps if you would prefer a more handmade finish. Sterling silver lobster clasps are also available upon request at an additional charge of £4.00, special requests can be made for handmade Sterling Silver, Gold-filled and Brass S clasps.

Some styles are only available with limited clasp variations

-----------------

9. Do you offer repairs?

I can repair any of my waist beads that break, please contact me, however I doubt they will. Repairs are free if requested within the first 18 months. This guarantee is only valid as long as the original waist beads have not been altered by, for example, changing the clasps, deliberate damage, restringing the waist beads, negligence etc.

For a small fee and shipping I can restring any waist beads other than ones created by myself to reinforce their strength. This is available for all waist beads not just Natiive Waistbeads' waist beads.

-----------------

10. I have a selection of beads I like that I would like to have made into a set of waist beads, are you able to do this?

Yes, please contact me for any custom orders and requests and I'll be happy to assist you with any ideas you have and to agree a price. You will be provided with a shipping address and any unused beads will be returned to you along with your custom set of waist beads. Please use either a trackable method of shipping and insurance as compensation cannot be issued if your beads are lost in the post

------------------

11. I live in the area can I collect my waist beads from you personally?

Usually this is only an option for friends and family but some orders can be collected personally, the transaction will still have to take place on Etsy but there will be no shipping charge.

------------------

12. How do I place a custom order?

Please use the appropriate buttons; located on the left hand side of the screen on the shop front page or at the top next to the Add to Cart button on individual listings.
The information I require is the design you want, any ideas you have, themes etc. Any photo references you have are also useful to me. Please refer to Question 10 if you have any beads you would like included in your design.
Custom designs are never remade for sale without your permission however your design may influence future pieces but I strive to ensure they do not have many similarities to your custom piece.
Occasionally it is necessary to take deposits upon agreeing to a custom order, you will be notified of any fees required up front. Deposits are NON refundable unless I am unable to complete your request in which case your money will be refunded in full. The remaining payment is required upon completion.
