Announcement   Unique handmade Native American and tatted items, graphic design, and vinyl or cut paper designs. Beaded, tatted, woven, unique, original, modern, and traditional. Many items are one of a kind, so don't hesitate if there's something you want or it might just disappear.

We offer a combination of Native American and European influenced items. All beadwork and Native American items are 100% authentic, made by Navajo hands.

The Native American culture is a living one and has fads and trends like any other culture. Our work is not an attempt to create historically accurate reproductions of items, but to use the essence of our culture to create new things. We often use modern materials and adapt designs in new ways. Styles are always changing, even in this ancient culture. Enjoy a new take on old traditions!

At Native and Pilgrim, we love exercising our creativity, so challenge us with your custom projects. Contact us here on Etsy or email us at nativeandpilgrim(at)gmail.com to work out the details so we can set up a custom listing for you.

From the photo I had a totally incorrect impression of what the item were. Re-reading, the description is factually correct. These are just small, cheap buttons as in the kind you pin on a shirt. More my fault for not carefully scrutinizing the description, but disappointed. Not worth the time & expense to return.

I'm sorry you did't understand what you were purchasing. I have now added a photo of the backs of the pinback buttons and an extra encouragement to read the full description before ordering. Thanks for helping us to improve.

About

A modern take on traditional arts

Frustrated with seeing the same arts and crafts at every powwow or market, we wanted to take the skills we had in beading, tatting, etc. and give them a modern twist. We started with cutting Native American designs out of vinyl and applying them to stones. Then we used tatting to make jewelry instead of doilies. Etched glass, paper art, and now pinback buttons have captured our attention along the way.

We're not big on following the latest fads. Our priority is to enjoy what we do and take pride in what we make. It is our wish that we can connect with others like us who appreciate a trip off the beaten path and enjoy our creations.

Shop members

  • Karen Tapahe

    Owner, Maker, Designer

Direct descendant of Pilgrims and pioneers, Karen has developed skills in tatting, crochet, sewing, and beadwork. She married into a Navajo family, adopting the culture and eventually participating in powwow and presenting on Native American culture.

  • Emerson Tapahe

    Owner, Maker, Designer

Emerson is a full-blooded member of the Navajo (Dine') tribe and grew up on the reservation. He is a teacher and coach and enjoys the challenge of finding new ways to do things. He finds ways to put his designs on new mediums.

Additional policies and FAQs
When time allows, we are open to requests for custom orders and creative projects, so challenge us.

As a general rule, we do not provide mock-ups for projects without a commitment to buy. A lot of work goes into preparing those examples and we've been burned by people asking for mock-ups, and then changes to the design, and then they disappear or decline our bid. We are people of integrity and promise to do everything we can to make your custom project the way you want it. If we can't meet your expectations, we are willing to step aside and cancel the sale.
