—Our Philosophy & Story
Nattypat Crochet specializes in amigurumi crochet patterns that are quick to make, realistically shaped, and lovingly designed to mimic nature’s cutest critters. It was founded in 2010 by Natalie Gagnon when a slightly obsessive urge to make cute things became unbearable.
Nattypat Crochet believes that through the use subtle shaping and finishing techniques, a true-to-life appearance is both simple and rewarding to achieve in crochet. With an extra touch of craftsmanship, such as latch hooking or embroidery, a truly unique crocheted item—like the Nattypat Crochet tagline, "Crochet to Collect and Cuddle"—can be achieved.
Each Nattypat Crochet pattern is feature-packed and painstakingly designed and edited. From start to pattern download, countless hours go into each design, ensuring that the instructions are easy-to-read, consistent and to professional industry standards. But it doesn't end there, all patterns include links to video tutorials for all necessary stitches and techniques and helpful crochet tips and tricks. So whether you're new to crochet or experienced, there's a Nattypat Crochet project waiting for you. Come crochet with Nattypat and get in touch with Natalie, she'd love to hear from you.
Natalie learned to crochet in 2005 after some persistent teaching and a few misshapen granny squares. After admiring the handiwork of a friend’s grandmother and thinking about the items her own grandmothers had made during their lifetimes, Natalie knew she needed to take the plunge and give crochet a try. Needlework after all, did run in her family. Now she crochets using inherited crochet hooks and hopes that she can pay the crochet gift forward to many more closet-crochet lovers. Thus far, she has taught crochet at community centres, independent and big box stores, attended the Stitches West conference, and created and published many crochet video tutorials and patterns—not a bad beginning, let's see where she and Nattypat Crochet will go next.
