About

Making masks and more since 2009.

I've been making masks for about five years now. Well, I actually started seven years ago, making fun and simple masks as wedding favors for my masquerade-themed wedding. Making masks to sell to others didn't occur to me until two years later, when a friend offered me a booth at a local craft fair. She thought I would bring a few paintings, but I had already been mulling an idea that I wanted to try out, so it seemed like the perfect time to give it a shot. Leaf masks for a fun nature-spirit type of look, made with artificial leaves for easy wear and endurance. I was so excited about my new creation that I made headbands and hair clips to match each mask. They were very popular at the craft fair, and thus my business started.

In 2010 I established Natura Pluma Designs, so named from the Latin words for Nature and Feather. I expanded the many styles of leaf masks, and added fabric masquerade-style masks as well. I created all sorts of headbands and hair clips, including feather fascinators and even headbands with summer fruits for a dance troupe in Italy. I even played with masks made from natural materials such as birch bark and moss. I also experimented with making animal masks for Halloween parties, and eventually began creating monster masks for LARP events. The range of items I made became a vast array, including masks, head bands, hair clips, tiny top hats, faerie wings, pins, jewelry, and even knitted goods such as hats and scarves and pouches.

In 2013 I moved to Northern California, and over the next year, I decided to make some changes with the business as well. Instead of letting myself become distracted by the various other projects, I began focusing on just masks and costume-type accessories. I still of course make custom orders for just about anything you ask for, but for me it was time to narrow down my scope to really focus on the joy of costuming. The name Natura Pluma Designs didn't quite seem to resonate with me anymore. I searched for something that truly reflected the spirit of what I do and where I'd like to take this little business. On the autumnal equinox of 2014, Equinox Masquerade was born.

The equinox is when day and night are equal. It's a time of finding balance in your life. I love the dark things in life - rainy days, skulls, the color black, a style that's more than a little goth, and of course nature's dark side, death and decay. I also have an appreciation for the light - flowers in bloom, a hike on a clear sunny day, a positive and upbeat outlook. In my art, I want to reflect the balance I've learned from being what some might call a "gothic hippie". For every flame there is a shadow, and I strive to capture both in my work.

Hello! I am an artist from Wisconsin. I work in mixed-media mask making and accessories.

My artwork to me is the reason I live and breathe. I put a bit of my soul into each piece. I hope you enjoy seeing it as much as I enjoy making it.

Additional policies and FAQs
If you have any questions or requests please message me. I love to do custom work. I will work with you every step of the way by sending you photographs at each stage.

If you are interested in multiple quantities, just let me know and I will make as many as you need! Just keep in mind that especially with the feathered hair clips and headbands, because of the vintage-shop way I go about finding many of the buttons, are often one of a kind. But please send a message anyway and I will certainly see what I can do for you!

Please know that all masks, headbands, and clips can be custom-made at your request. Let me know mask shape, leaf type, flower type, ribbon type and colors for each, and any other details you would like. They can also be bulk-ordered for parties and events, but please order a sufficient time in advance. Prices may vary depending on materials, but they will stay in a reasonable range! Please send me a message with any questions or requests!
