How do I care for my 925 Sterling Silver "Snake Chain"?
Items with a 925 Sterling Silver "snake chain" are made of a metal alloy that contains 92.5% of silver and 7.5% of other metals, like copper, zinc, or nickel. Manufacturers blend this metal with other metals to increase its tensile strength and durability. Naturally, silver metal is too soft to make jewelry from.
As a result of the blend, the silver metal emerges with a metallic, shiny, and bright appearance. However, the combination of silver and other metals does not prevent it from tarnishing or corroding eventually. As such, you must regularly clean and polish your sterling silver pieces to ensure they maintain their brilliant and lustrous. In addition, you should avoid getting the item wet!
Will the necklace turn my skin green?
Many items are made from aluminum rings or 304 Stainless Steel and it is rare that they would react with someone's skin and turn it a different color.
Some items use a 925 sterling silver "snake chain". This consists of 92.5% of silver, 7.5% of other metals, such as copper. Everyone has skin that reacts differently to different things though. Sometimes, the combination with copper can cause a green tint on your neck due to chemical reactions with your skin. The amount of copper used, your perspiration rate, and the types of products applied on your skin will dictate the severity of the green tint and vary person to person.
Similarly, a green tint on your neck may be as a result of the copper tarnishing from your 925 sterling silver chain.
