Announcement   Collecting and preparing the naturals (pine needles and other naturals) is an important part of what encourages me in my creations and makes it special. It starts with nature and continues through the creative handcrafting.. Coiled and stitched basketry were one of the very first crafts practiced by humans . My coiled work is made using traditional coiled basketry techniques used by the American Indian, sturdy and tightly bound by hand. Pine needles are added one by one, and the coiling is shaped as I go, stitch by stitch, a very time consuming process.

All of my baskets are one of a kind hand-crafted pine needle basket creations. I use mostly Ponderosa pine needles that I gather myself since I live in the Northwest. All of the baskets are finished with a shellac to preserve them. They also all come signed, dated, and numbered either on the bottom or on a tag attached to the basket.

Welcome to Needles To Baskets, I hope you will love the baskets as much as I love creating them.

Collecting and preparing the naturals (pine needles and other naturals) is an important part of what encourages me in my creations and makes it special. It starts with nature and continues through the creative handcrafting.. Coiled and stitched basketry were one of the very first crafts practiced by humans . My coiled work is made using traditional coiled basketry techniques used by the American Indian, sturdy and tightly bound by hand. Pine needles are added one by one, and the coiling is shaped as I go, stitch by stitch.

Since I live in Washington State, I mainly use Ponderosa pine needles for my creations. When I began making my baskets I did more traditional styles with V stitching but now am enjoying doing many different styles and shapes. I find joy in doing only high quality work, so if you find that the pictures provided don't show enough detail please feel free to ask for more pictures at different angles.
