About

Project Bags and Knitwear Patterns from the foothills of the Canadian Rockies!

I have always wanted to be a maker - ever since I was a little girl, I've wanted to make my own things for sale and sell them in my own shop. Originally, it was as a jewelry maker. Then it was as an author and illustrator. And now, as a project bag maker and knitter.

I first heard of Etsy while I was on exchange at Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakatashi, Osaka, Japan, from September 2009-May 2010. I returned to Canada refreshed by my year of studying abroad. I was ecstatic to see my (then) future husband, cat, and family; Etsy was put on the back burner as I settled back into my English-speaking life and the last two demanding years of my English degree.

But something about this opportunity to sell my handmade goods to people worldwide...Well, that had caught my attention. It would be an opportunity larger than I had dreamt as a girl.

In 2011, I started with knitwear in the shop, but found that sewn project bags were a much better way forward for me. Now I knit for pleasure and design, while projects bags are my main production item. I like to work mostly with Japanese fabrics because of my love for that country. In fact, Nekozuki means "cat lover" in Japanese, a small tribute to my time in the country, and the place it has taken in my heart.

I currently work full time for Nekozuki Knits, and live with my husband and our two cats in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada - in the very foothills of the Canadian Rockies. in March 2016, we travelled to Japan, and I hope to be able to support more trips via my shop so that I may continue to provide high-quality Japanese fabrics!
