Amazing beautifully made buttons. A bit bigger than I wanted but will work well on my hats. Great communication. Highly recommend.

These buttons were the perfect addition to an accent pillow my sister had made me. They are beautiful and sturdy, yet flexible enough to make sewing them an easy task.
Textile artist Nell and her Super Sonic Sewing machine.
I'm Nell, I create textile art and unique hand dyed embroidery threads, beads and buttons. I love textile art, especially free motion embroidery. I bought my sewing machine in 1997 whilst at University studying for my Fashion & Textile design degree in Leicester, UK. I named her Hoosky, we bonded immediately.
I worked part time at the shop that I bought my sewing machine from and once I completed my degree I worked full time and taught classes on dressmaking and home decor, before me and Hoosky moved to London to seek my fortune!
I worked full time at being a buyer assistant for a department store and at weekends and evenings we spent time doing custom dressmaking including bridal and specialist outdoor wear.
I have always had a passion for embroidery and textiles, doing bridal wear allowed me experiment more with what I dabbled with at Uni. I self-taught myself some basic free machine embroidery whilst doing my degree but the course limited my experimenting time with all the homework and dissertations! So in 2003 me and Hoosky enrolled onto a 2 year City & Guilds Machine Embroidery course. We were in our elements! I really found my true passion and Hoosky excelled at it too!
Completing the City & Guilds really helped me develop what I had taught myself to a whole other level and really encouraged me to experiment and do more artwork.
A couple of months after graduating I had the opportunity to move to Vancouver... so me and Hoosky (and husband) have been here since 2005. I love it here. Vancouver has opened up so many opportunities with my artwork. I spent the first year here with Hoosky playing and experimenting all day every day, I soon grew enough confidence to exhibit and sell my work locally at specialist galleries. Despite joining local guilds and online communities, being alone with Hoosky all day became boring I needed to get out and find more friends! So I took part time work which became full time at a art gallery…. but we still stitched every spare minute I had.
In Feb 2011 I opened my Etsy shop, as I wanted to see if there was a wider audience for my artwork… nothing ventured, nothing gained. In fall 2011 I gave up the day job to work full time on Nells Embroidery. Having my work available online has given more opportunities than I thought possible. I still sell and exhibit locally, take commissions, I was a featured artist on World of threads website.
Sadly in Dec 2012 Hoosky was forced into well overdue retirement. We will still stitch together on special occasions! Juky is her replacement and so far we are getting along great!

I don't remember a time when I was not designing and sewing, this love comes from a childhood spent with my mum in her sewing room. I can't imagine a time I that won't be sewing and designing.
All items (except items in embroidery supplies) are unique hand made items by me with full attention to detail. No two items are the same making them truly unique. Please visit my website www.nellsembroidery.com to find out more about me and my work.
