Looks beautiful - even got two copies!? The envelope is pretty, too! She went above and beyond in helping me and answering all of my questions!

The artist created exactly what I wanted and I had the piece in my hands when it was expected. Perfect wedding gift!

This is an absolutely beautiful piece. I commissioned it for my friend's wedding and it came out perfectly! I gave brief descriptions to Joanna of what I was looking for and I think the result speaks for itself. If you want a calligraphy piece for yourself or as a gift, definitely ask for a custom order.

About

Nenga no Jo brings Japanese calligraphy to the rest of this world.

I started studying Japanese calligraphy, shodō, in 2008 while I was studying abroad at Nanzan University in Nagoya, Japan. I was absolutely horrible at it at the time but when I returned to Japan in 2010 as an English teacher on the JET Program I knew I wanted to continue learning.

Within a month of my arrival in Ishikawa prefecture I had signed up for lessons from a local teacher. Once a week for the past three years I've gone to lessons to learn to write in pen as well as with small and large brushes. I've worked my way up through the ranks and I'm currently certified at the shodan level.

I've always been a stationery hoarder but this year, on the advice of a friend, I've decided to be a stationery seller. My New Year's cards were so well received last year by Japanese and non-Japanese friends and relatives alike that I've decided to sell my handwritten cards.

Whether you're an expat in Japan who wants to send a nengajō with a personal touch or a Japan enthusiast living abroad, these handmade nengajō are a beautiful, personal way to send your greetings during the holiday season.
