Nettie Kaye perfectly captured the quiet, casually mischievous nature of our son. (My husband thinks he looks like a young rogue from a fantasy novel. He asked "Where's his sword?" when I showed him the portrait.)

Sent it to a friend who had just put her dog down. Everyone cried when they opened the package. Thank you for creating a very good likeness. Good communication throughout the process, too. I do wish it had arrived a tad sooner due to the nature of the gift but I'd rather quality than speed and the timing doesn't undermine my five star score.

Portraits on Etsy since 2008

I began selling my painting on etsy in December of 2008. I was in the midst of battling the debilitating disease of Rheumatoid arthritis and knew that my energy could no longer sustain the pounding of promoting my works into the galleries. I needed a way to do it in my pajamas if I had too!

I began by drastically lowering my prices painting for people who could not ordinarily afford my work. It was real joy. It also gave me a huge amount of painting experience as I had to paint over 50 paintings in 2009!

Now, after more than 125 paintings sold, I am content to paint for the sheer joy of painting. I teach one or two classes a week at McCall College in the high mountains 100 miles north of Boise, Idaho and paint large works during church services while my husband preaches...other than that...I paint! and paint! and paint!

I have two different styles of portraiture available. The first is a Photographic or realistic style and the second is a more painterly or impressionistic style. You may choose. You can even have a cartoon of your subject painted!

Backgrounds can vary as well. You may choose, what I would call, a "Rembrandt" like background which is usually in a darker, smooth texture. This background sets off the highlights of the face beautifully. The other is more textured and colorful.

Paintings with a full scenery background can also be painted. They are considerably more expensive, but beautiful works of art. Let me know and I will be happy to give you a quote.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Generally, if the painting to be commissioned is over $100.00, I will require a 50% down payment to begin and the remainder at the completion of the painting. Over $500.00 I will be happy to break the painting into 3-6 payments.
Under $100.00 will require full payment in advance.
On the smaller paintings, I ship US Post Priority and include insurance and confirmation.

Paintings over 16" x 20" may be shipped either UPS or Federal Express Ground.
Refunds and Exchanges
All work is 100% guaranteed. If for any reason you do not like the painting, I will refund the entire amount of your deposit.
Additional policies and FAQs
Once I recieve the reference photos for your painting, I will generally do an underdrawing, or underpainting for your initial approval. I will convo or email a photo to you and then I will commence to painting the work on canvas.
Upon initial completion of the painting, I will send you a photo of the painting via convo or email. At this point you may make a ONE TIME evaluation and suggest any changes that you feel need to be made. I will then make the needed corrections and send the painting to you when it is dry enough to ship.

Please note: Even though you purchase a painting, the rights to copy or reproduce that painting in any way, shape or form remain the right of the creating artist. You must have written permission to reproduce the work.
