I'm never bored!

Paper Filigree -
Also known as quilling, this art can be traced back hundreds of years. Some of the oldest examples were created by French nuns. Monasteries with meager funds discovered they could create the beautiful ornate look of filigree work done in gold and silver by using paper. In past years ladies of upper class means would spend their time recreating their family coat of arms or decorating boxes and furniture items with hand-cut and twirled pieces of paper.

Why I sell my craft -
Spreading the joy of paper filigree one twirl at a time – is all about introducing you to this art. I’m so excited! On my pages you will not only find items I’ve made, but there are patterns and kits you can buy so you can learn and enjoy this wonderful age-old craft.

The Creation of Never Bored Creations -
While growing up outside of a small town in Missouri, at 20th & Plum (a.k.a. 20 miles from Nowhere and Plum out in the sticks!) there was one thing my Mom would not tolerate - kids saying, “I’m bored.” Her response would be a stack of laundry to fold, dishes to wash, or anything else that was truly boring. So I took advantage of being taught how to sew, embroidery, and crochet. Over the years, my interest in handwork has led me to learn other skills like cross stitching, scrap booking, card making, shuttle tatting, and I dabble in quilting.

However, a few years ago, I rekindled my enjoyment of paper filigree. There is just something different about paper filigree. The feel of the paper, the colors, the way they bend and turn in my fingers. To take something so simple as an 1/8 inch strip of paper and create a bigger picture. A piece of art – it’s just mystifying to me. I fell in awe with the art of paper filigree.

So why did a hobbyist decide to take her awe to the next level -
A new amazing job landed me in the middle of rural entrepreneurs. During those 6 great years, I found myself in the middle of corn fields, wading in mud picking squash, learning about (and tasting!) award winning wines. Even getting kisses from alpacas! I also enjoyed coordinating events with artisans, arranging bus tours for ‘city’ folks, and learning area history from our museums and living historic sites.

What happened during those years amazed me. My own entrepreneurial spirit caught fire! When my job ended because of grant cuts, my husband and I – now empty nesters – decided I could start my own business around a simple twirl of paper.

So who am I? I am a wife, mother of three amazing girls, Nana to several natural and bonus grandkids, daughter, Sunday School teacher, and add to this mixture, a business owner. So, when people ask the ultimate question, “How do you find the time?” I respond, “I’m never bored!”

Welcome! Thank you for visiting Never Bored Creations. Love the name? For more information on how it was chosen please see my "About" apge.

Intricate, elegant and timeless: The art of paper filigree (a.k.a. paper quilling) can be traced back hundreds of years to the French nuns. You now have the opportunity to share in the enjoyment and appreciation of this very old and beautiful art.

Never Bored Creations focuses on decorative items and jewlery for giving, sharing or just indulging yourself. Strips of paper of varying widths are curled into many 3D shapes including coils, marquises, teardrops, squares, and hearts, just to name a few. The addition of scroll shapes adds flair and elegant dimensions.

The majority of my designs are completed in 1/8 inch wide paper strips but don’t let that fool you. A single strip of paper can be very fragile, but roll it into a multi-layer shape and it is very durable.

Please understand that giving the customer a full refund or replacing the item before exhausting all other options is difficult for any small business and your patience is greatly appreciated.
Additional policies and FAQs
Many items can be custom made in colors of your choice. If you see an item and think “I’m not crazy about blue. Wonder if she will make it in pink?” Please feel free to convo me and ask. My colors are only limited to the papers I can buy; however, I do have many shades! Do keep in mind that any item changes may require an additional 5 days before it is ready to ship. We will discuss my schedule needs during custom discussions.

*****VERY IMPORTANT **** *

Do keep in mind that paper and water do not mix. Although all my jewelry and some other items have a light coating of ‘secret sauce’ to help protect against wear and tear and moisture – they are not waterproof!

Do keep in mind that sun is not paper’s friend, either. Decorative items might fade if displayed for long periods in direct sunlight.

If an item becomes damaged, (i.e., grandbaby pulls your earring apart) please feel free to contact me. I may be able to give you tips and tricks for repairing your product.
