Seymour Chwast, as pictured in "The Left-Handed Designer." We pleased to have several pieces from Seymour's personal archive available in the shop right now.
From 1949 to its conclusion in 1952, New Directions' Direction Series were wrapped in this "wave" style dust jacket designed by Alvin Lustig. I'll be listing several exceptional examples this week.

New Documents is a gallery of important twentieth century graphic design.

New Documents is a shop specializing in mid-twentieth century graphic design. I am designer by trade, and launched New Documents in January 2012 as an outlet to curate my personal design collection. Part of the enjoyment I get out of collecting comes from living with things that are culturally and historically important. Another part comes from researching, learning, and discovering new things about the early years of the industry I now work in. Through New Documents, I hope to pass along a little of this magic to you.

In May 2014, New Documents began working with seminal American designer and illustrator Seymour Chwast to sell part of his personal archive of work. Each piece offered in this collection comes directly from Chwast's office and is in like-new vintage condition unless otherwise noted. You can view available inventory from Mr. Chwast's archive here:

If you have any specific needs or requests, please don’t hesitate to ask via convo or email.

I'm a full-time graphic designer with an obsession for twentieth century design. When not making design, I'm curating my own design collection in addition to the pieces I offer here at New Documents.

Welcome to New Documents, a gallery of mid-twentieth century graphic design. I pride myself in curating a fine vintage selection from both world renowned designers as well as forgotten, anonymous, and under-appreciated artists. If you are looking for something specific, please let me know. I'm constantly out scouring the country for new examples for my collection ... and possibly for yours! Remember: life is short, art endures.

Ship items back within: 14 days of delivery
I don't accept exchanges or cancellations
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
  • Items on sale
Although I strive to only sell the highest quality and condition objects, all items I sell are vintage and will often show signs of use or age. I am careful to describe the condition of each piece I sell, but if you'd like a more detailed condition report or additional photos please don't hesitate to ask.

I always pack my items with the greatest of care, and have never had a claim filed that an item has been damaged in transit due to insufficient packaging. I'm very proud of that status. If something does get damaged in transit, however, please contact me and I'll help you file any necessary paperwork with the carrier. Please note that damages incurred in transit are the responsibility of the carrier, and not New Documents.

I do my best to accurately represent the color and all of my images are color corrected on a professionally calibrated design work station, but due to inconsistencies in monitor adjustments there may be a slight shift in hue between photos presented on your computer and the actual item.

All items sold "as is" with no refunds unless there was an error in the item description. Please contact me before returning any item.

Returned items (including items sent back due to non-payment of Customs and import duties) and cancelled transactions are subject to a 20% restocking fee. Return shipping costs are always the buyer's responsibility unless otherwise agreed prior to making the return.
Payment must be submitted within 24 hours of making your purchase. We accept payments through PayPal or credit card via Etsy's Direct Checkout. Unpaid items will be re-listed for sale after 48 hours of non-payment. Items shipped to a Washington address will be charged the appropriate state sales tax.
Your purchase will be sent out within two business days after your payment has cleared.

Please make sure your Etsy account includes the correct shipping address. By default we will always ship to the address you have on file here, not the address you have on file with PayPal or other sites.
