Announcement    Welcome – For many generations, the women in our family have been hand dying tarot silks and making traditional scrying mirrors. We are pleased to now offer them here on Etsy.

Our silks are hand-dyed from custom-mixed pigments, not vat dyed or mass produced. This means there will be slight shade variations between each silk and there is a chance of dye spots here and there. These characteristics of the hand dyed silks make them one of a kind, not flawed.

The History of Silk (and why you’ll see a tag on ours)

China is the birthplace of silk and sericulture (the raising of silkworms for silk production) has a history of over 6,000 years. Legend has it that Lady Hsi-Lin-Shih (the wife of the Yellow Emperor Huangdi) was having tea under a mulberry tree when a cocoon fell into her cup. As she watched, the cocoon spun a strong white thread. She unwound the strand onto her finger, realizing that it could be used as weaving thread. Thus an industry was born. She taught her people how to raise silkworms, and later invented the loom. Silk production reached a high level of craftsmanship during the Shang Dynasty, 1600 BC -1046 BC.

We have always purchased our silk from China, as it is and always has been the place to go for the highest quality of silk. Please be aware that seeing a “made in China” tag on silk is a good thing :)

In our home, we hand-dye but we do not weave our own silk. We mix our own pigments and, beginning with white raw silk, we dye…

Frequently asked questions

Reserved Listings

We are open to lay away (holding an item for you as a reserved listing until the date we all agree on) and will trade with other Etsy shop owners. Please don't be afraid to ask :)

Domestic Shipping

We live far from the post office, and will make the trip in to drop off all packages once or twice per week. Usually Mondays, and sometimes I make the second run in on Thursdays. This trip takes me hours, so I cannot go every day. I see in my feedback, people say either it was the fastest shipping they have ever seen, or they feel the shipping took too long. I hope this clarifies things for everyone.

All of our USA shipments are made via Standard USPS, with a tracking number, and insurance as needed. If you prefer another shipping method, please contact us, and we can make arrangements with you.

International Shipping

*****NOTE*****
We ship ALL international packages via USPS, with the CN-22 tracking information sent to you at the time of shipping. We cannot be responsible for packages lost or with held by customs in your country, and cannot replace these items.

If your package does not arrive, we will re-send the tracking information to you, and you will need to contact your customs office, to be sure it is not being held there.

YOU are responsible for all Customs charges. Most packages go through fine with no additional cost, but every so often customs in Your country will add an import charge.
~~~~~~~
We are currently unable to ship to France due to EPR restrictions and do not have the resources.
Refunds & Returns
We do not generally give refunds, but we may consider it depending on the situation. Please message directly if you have any problems with your order and we'd be happy to figure out the best solution possible.
Returned items will typically be considered as Store Credit.
We do ask if anyone returns something, that they please send a detailed note with the item, letting us know why. Our craftsmanship is very important to us, so we are always interested in feedback.
*Please note: All custom orders are final sales.
Color of Silks
Colors may vary from monitor to monitor as well as silk to silk. Because our silks are hand-dyed, the dye takes differently each time so each silk is slightly unique. If you have any questions about the color of our current silks, feel free to send us a message. :)
Our silks are hand-dyed from pigment, not vat dyed or mass produced. This means there will be slight shade variations over each silk, and there is a chance of a dye spot here and there. These are characteristics of the hand-dying process, not flaws.
If you are looking for perfection over the character of hand-dyed, please buy your silks from a mass producer. Thank you.
Size of Silks
We measure our silks before the dying process to make sure they are 22" x 22". However, sometimes the silks can shrink during this process and size may vary up to 1.5 inches.
Are your silks handmade?
We would like to clarify (due to some concerned reviewers) that while we do hand-dye silks with our own mixed pigments, traditional silk comes from China. It is, and has always been, the place to go for the highest quality silk. We do not have silk worms in our home nor do weave our own silk. We purchase the highest quality silk from China, and as we say in the listing titles and descriptions, we hand-dye them in our home. The tag found on silks is not a natural protein fiber and therefore will not typically react to the dye.
Domestic Missing Packages
We send ALL packages with tracking. If a package goes missing while in transit, we will certainly help locate it. If we work together most packages 'lost' in transit do mysteriously appear. Generally they are found and delivered, but if not we will work with you to find a solution.
***Please note: Once a package is marked delivered, there is nothing we can do on our end. We will provide the tracking info and instructions to help you locate your package, but please do your best to provide a secure location for your PO to deliver your items.
We cannot be responsible for, or replace, items stolen by porch pirates.
Germany - Verpackungsgesetz (LUCID Packaging Register)
On January 1, 2019, Germany’s Packaging Act (VerpackG) came into effect, imposing requirements on online retailers (including Etsy shops) selling to buyers in Germany. The Packaging Act promotes recycling and reuse of packaging materials (e.g. cardboard boxes, tape, and bubble wrap).
My company New Moon Tarot is registered with LUCID, which is the Packaging Register of the Stiftung Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (Foundation Central Agency Packaging Register – ZSVR).
Producers/distributors pay a license fee to the dual system for the collection, sorting and recycling of the packaging they introduced to the market. My Dual System partner is Activate by Reclay.
Please recycle when you can. Thank you.
