The color is fantastic! I am lucky enough to live in the vicinity Of the artist so And so he not only delivered it personally but explained a little of the process he used to produce it. The photo is more than Inhad expected it to be. Thank you

The idea of photography as rescuing a moment in time and making it permanent, elevating it and saying, "Look at this, this is important," resonates with me deeply. When I first started getting serious about photography, though, I found that the form itself was treated as an ephemeral thing, something to be scrolled back, or something on paper which was subconsciously felt to be disposable.

When I discovered wood transfer, I realized it was the perfect way to create beautiful, weighty, physical objects that feature images in a way that weaves them into the grain of the object itself, instead of trying to ignore the substrate and overwrite it the way a photo print does.

While I also sell canvas prints of my pictures, the wood transfers mean the most to me, because each one is unique and special.

On top of that, making commissions is really fun, because I get to see the pictures that people value above all others, and often these are the simple family shots, imperfectly captured on phones and disposable cameras but just exploding with meaning and life. I love working with those kinds of photos, as it reminds me that the things that impress my photographer friends are not necessarily the things that my audience is concerned with.

New Vintage Wood Art is about using the technique of photographic wood transfer to make images solid and real. I believe in creative re-use, and seek to take scrap wood and various old wood objects and give them new life as pieces of art. Most of my wood is either donated or purchased as scrap and would otherwise have ended up in a landfill or being burned somewhere. I also feel that the right piece of wood, combined with the right image, can have more impact than either ever had separately. It is my long term goal to find wood with historic meaning and connect it with images that have direct relevance.
