About

Elegant contemporary lace jewelry with a vintage twist. For dreamers and closet romantics.

I was working full time as a librarian when I started my etsy shop and feeling disillusioned with where my career was heading. After finished my fine arts degree I just took the first job that was offered to me and it took me years to figure out that I wanted to do something else.

I cut back my hours and now i work full time on my art practice and part time as a librarian and introduce myself as an artist when meeting new people. That was a massive turning point for me.

I've completed my first cohesive collection of lace jewelry and I can't wait to get working on other collections I see a wedding range and a glam range of jewelry in the future for Ngaio Rue.

Painting is a huge part of my creative process and I'm working on getting some of my pieces available to purchase in 2012. I paint concepts of the body and find curves fascinating which I think is one of the reasons I'm attracted to lace making. It's very hard to make a straight line in lace! I hope to pass on what I've learned about lace making to other people in the future so we can continue learning about this amazing craft. I'm currently tatting but I am also learning bobbin lace and I think some amazing things can come out of using different lace styles in the same piece.

When I'm designing I have an idea in my head of what the end result should look like and my ideas often come to me just before bed so I keep a notebook there for last minute thoughts to try out the next day.

I have a very aggressive cat and knit to chill out. I love British black comedy, chocolate and coffee. I've moved back to the big city to live with my partner and our ever growing collection of house plants. I love what I do and get a bit grumpy when i haven't picked up a brush or made something out of cotton. I can't imagine doing anything else.

My parents thought my brother was the artist and I was the musician in our family. We swapped roles while their backs were turned and never looked back.

Hi there. Thanks for stopping by below are just a few words, please send me a message for any clarification.

All lace and art is designed my me and I retain all copyrights for that work.

My Jewelery and accessories are made from a technique called tatting, it is a delicate lace craft made from knots and picots formed over thread, it’s beautiful and light-weight but strong. There are two different styles of tatting shuttle tatting and needle tatting the method is different but the product is exactly the same, I currently use needle tatting for all of my creations.

Most items are strengthened using a permanent water based non-toxic fabric stiffener making the earrings and necklaces very sturdy.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS: Items shouldn't need to much care, try to keep them dry but I have worn some of my earrings in a spa and they have survived and are still strong and solid. I do not recommend getting your lace soaked as it will not be the same unless you restrengthen it.
