About

Hobby designer snacks her way around the world.

In 2004, I was a quirky kid peddling puzzles and pogo sticks in an independent toy store in Austin. I saved up to buy a button machine so I could make pins for friends' bands, and my button-making hobby slowly grew into a proper side business selling custom orders of buttons and magnets with band and business logos. After awhile, I started making my own designs - at first I wasn't sure anyone would want them, but it turns out a lot of people share my love for pizza parties and smiling vegetables.

My trusty button machines followed us from Austin to Houston, Seattle, and New Orleans, always keeping me busy with new orders and new nerdy, wordy, and cutie patootie designs, and occasionally helping pay for vacations to far-off places like Asia and Australia. (Hmm, I just thought of an idea for a meat pie shirt.)

In 2016, my husband got a job transfer to the land of his dreams, so we left the button business (and almost everything else!) behind as we traveled to Japan to live in a tiny Tokyo apartment and eat chicken katsu curry on Friday nights.

I kept the shirts though. I'm so happy to keep designing because the clothes in my shop are printed by a cool guy who runs his own t-shirt shop in Los Angeles, California. I'm working on cooking up new ideas for what my shop will become, and in the meantime, I am taking daily walks by a beautiful river, making lots of doodles, learning to cook like a local, and sampling every new flavor of Japanese chips that I can find.

I've stopped updating the @nicebutton instagram for now, but you can follow my little adventures and read about the strangely appetizing flavor of corn pizza potato chips on my personal instagram @samjhorne.

Oooh, maybe I should make some shirt designs about my chips obsession. BRB, getting a snack first...

Payment
Etsy Direct Checkout and Paypal are SO CONVENIENT, right? Check and money orders are also okay, but they take longer to process.

Items will be shipped after payment has cleared. This means that if payment is made by check, the item will take longer to ship (time for check to be mailed + deposited + time for bank funds to be released).
Shipping
Items are shipped USPS after payment has cleared.

For Shirts:
Production time is always 3-7 business days.
Standard US shipping is 2-8 business days.
Expedited US shipping is 1-3 business days.
Please note that shipping can be expedited, but production time cannot. If you pay for 1-3 day shipping, the shirt will still be ready to ship in 3-7 business days.

International standard shipping often takes 2-3 weeks, but can occasionally take anywhere from 5 to 45 days. The United States Postal Service does not guarantee US ship times/dates, nor do they give estimates of international ship times. However, they do guarantee money back on Priority and Express packages if an item is lost or damaged by the postal service. Note that this does not include items "lost" because of an incorrect address you confirmed at checkout.

If a package is returned to me due to an incorrect shipping address that you confirmed, you may be responsible for cost of the return shipping and/or re-shipping, or you may choose to receive a refund for the cost of the items. Whether you use Etsy Direct Checkout or PayPal, they do require you to confirm your current shipping address before payment is complete. I cannot be responsible for items sent to a confirmed but incorrect address if they are not returned to me.

I do not estimate, anticipate, or pay for customs or VAT fees.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you believe that your order has been fulfilled incorrectly, contact me with details about the error, as well as a photo to help describe the issue. If there is an error, I will provide replacements or refunds and pay shipping costs.

Shirts are made to order, so I reluctantly provide refunds and exchanges (buyer is responsible for shipping costs). Please read the sizing information carefully. I am happy to answer sizing and color questions.

Returns and exchanges must be made within 30 days of item delivery. Items must be in original, re-sellable condition, unwashed, with no obvious signs of wear or use. Items must be free of odors such as perfume and cigarette smoke, and free of pet hair, dirt, et cetera. I reserve the right to deny a return or exchange if an item is not re-sellable at my discretion.

Bulk orders may not be returned or exchanged. Custom made items cannot be returned or exchanged.

Returns/exchanges may be shipped to me in Tokyo or to my family in Texas.
