About

Modern pots for our everyday lives

I design and make everything with my two hands. My aesthetic is definitely modern and reduced.

My process starts in the wood shop. I make the prototype for each piece solid out of MDF. I then make a plaster mold off of this model. Once moldmaking is complete, I can start with slip casting the objects out of porcelain. After casting and assembling, I bisque fire.

After the bisque, I apply multiple glazes to each piece using wax resist to create the surface designs. I then glaze fire in an electric kiln to cone 7.

After glaze firing, I apply the decals, and fire again to cone 017 to make the decals permanent.

The final steps include sanding the foot, photography, posting and shipping. Besides Etsy, I work with eight galleries across the US.

Nicholas makes highly functional, uniquely handmade objects for use. The reductive minimal aesthetic found in his work is abstracted from his appreciation for all things precisely done with style. The ceramic pieces are high-fire slip cast porcelain.

Returns and exchanges
I want you to feel comfortable ordering from me. I offer two kinds of returns. If the item arrives broken, cracked, chipped or in some other way flawed, I will replace or refund. This type of breakage is highly unlikely as I inspect everything several times and package well, but nonetheless, things can happen and I want you to know that I will make it right. If this does occur, I ask that you send me a photo of the flaw, then a photo of the piece after you completely destroy it.

If you purchase an item and decide that it isn't the right piece for you, please let me know right away. I will have you ship it back to me at your expense, and I can then ship you another one at my expense, or refund your money, whichever works best for the situation. Please note: The buyer is responsible for safe return of work and return shipping costs.

My main goal here is to get my work into the hands of HAPPY customers, and I will do whatever it takes to keep you, my customer, happy.
Payment
Payments can be made through PayPal or by sending a check or money order directly to me. Shipments will not be made until payment is received and cleared.
Shipping
I take great pride and care throughout the creation and production of my work and I take equal care and security in packing and shipping. I do not pay the shipper for insurance. My philosophy is to pack the work so well that there is virtually no chance of breakage, and then if something somehow defies all odds and breaks, I will refund or replace at MY expense. I have found it very difficult to actually get insurance payments from shipping companies and don't want you or me to have to jump through their hoops or give them money they don't deserve

Generally, I only ship within the United States because costs elsewhere for ceramics tend to be prohibitive. Please convo me if you live outside the US and have interest in purchasing. (A cup to Europe typically costs a minimum of $35 and takes approximately a week from shipment day. A cup to Canada is around $20.)

Orders most often will be shipped out the next business day via USPS. I also ship though Fedex Ground or UPS depending on the situation.
Additional policies and FAQs
My work is intended for your use and enjoyment. Handmade pottery can need (and happily, deserves) a little more love to prolong its life than contemporary manufactured ware, so while durable and microwavable, hand washing is recommended.
