About

Living the Dream

Nicole Aquillano was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She took the unconventional path to becoming a full-time studio potter by first pursing a career in civil engineering; eventually following her passion to Rhode Island School of Design to earn an MFA in ceramics. In 2012, Nicole set up her studio in the Fort Point Area of Boston. She draws each image by hand directly into the porcelain clay with a knife, and inlays black underglaze. After bisque firing, Nicole applies a clear non-toxic glaze which she mixes herself, and fires her work to cone 10 (approximately 2350 degrees F). Each piece is a unique, dishwasher safe creation made entirely by Nicole!

Influenced by my longing to return to the comfort and stability of home, I use architectural imagery drawn from my photographic collection, coupled with the movement of glaze, to elicit memories of times past.
