These hair pins are pure PERFECTION! I can't believe it...I feel like I found the Holy Grail. Finally, the flawless, beautiful hair pin I've been searching for forever has been found! Holds my fine hair securely in the perfect bun. I will be purchasing more as soon as possible. Also, seller sent a lovely note AND I received my package very quickly. This is a picture of the back view in the mirror. 😊

Finished the paint/carving tests for the Firebird frame! I'll do the real thing tonight or tomorrow when I get up the courage to alter the new (very nice) frame.

About

Glass, Metal, and Geekery

If blame must be assigned, I would lay it on the University of Washington School of Architecture.
In 2009, when Liz decided to return to school to pursue an architecture degree, the advisers at UW told her that one of the main things the Architecture school was looking for was an art background. So the next quarter she took 3 introductory studio art classes at North Seattle Community College: Drawing, Ceramics, and Jewelry/Metalsmithing. Drawing just didn't resonate. Ceramics was fun, but heavy. Jewelry, though, was just perfect, and all thoughts of Architecture as a profession vanished.
She had an extensive informal background in form and color from her days as a yarn dyer and fiber artist some years before, so when she got the chance to study enameling, she dove in.
Enamel is Liz's calling in life and experimentation is her watchword. She loves mixing metal techniques, enamel techniques, and different forms and types of glass, just to see what will happen (and sometimes what happens is that the piece explodes during cooling!).
Liz also brings her deep geekiness (she's been attending sci-fi conventions for more than 20 years!) to her work, pulling on themes of space, history, and fantasy, with a side order of practical usefulness.

Hi, I'm Elizabeth, and welcome to NightshadeRose Studios, the place to find interesting enamel, copper, and silver jewelry, accessories, and whatever other shiny things I manage to create. Here you will find many things that are irregular or imperfect, from hand-forged hair pins to far-from-round pearls, because I believe that the world's uniqueness and beauty is found in its imperfections.
If you'd like to keep up with what's going on in the studio, I keep a blog at http://nightshaderosestudio.tumblr.com/tagged/studio, and I've occasionally been known to tweet as well @nrs_jewelry.
