About

My journey from difficulties to creativity

Thank you for your interest in my jewelry and glass designs!

I am a goldsmith and jewelry artist from Finland. In addition to traditional goldsmiths techniques, I am also skilled in various enameling techniques and lampwork technique. I produce unique and elegant artisan jewelry and lampwork glass beads, with an artistic look.

All my glass beads are handmade using a torch with propane and oxygen. I follow precise methods, so all the beads are kiln annealed in digital controlled kiln for extra durability, cleaned and inspected before shipping. Each beads are made one at a time and hand decorated by using glass stringers, frits, fine silver and gold leaf.

I use only best materials; precious metals and high quality glass. I have created my own way to combine those two skills; goldsmithing and glass designing, by using glass instead of usual gemstones. I still use traditional stone setting methods, when working with glass. For me the most fascinating things in the glass are its plasticity and endless color range. From glass I can create my own ”gems” with the most beautiful color combinations.

Through my jewelry I want to express my feelings and experiences. I get my inspiration from nature, trees and birds around me, from different times of the year. From the shimmering frost in the snowy forest, or the gentle wind on a summer night. Many times the occurrences in a daily life are the best sources of creativity. My growing orchid collection is also one of the greatest passion in my life, which gives me a lot of positive energy to create something new.

My Story

My first memory about myself sharing my art pieces to others, goes far away to my childhood. I was not more than 8-years, when I decided to craft postcards for sell. I draw, cut, glued and wrote little cards, put them to little box and headed towards the neighborhood for sell them from door to door. That was my first experience about self-employment.

All my childhood I draw and made different crafts, but on the age of 14 I became more interested in jewelry. I had my child at the age of 21 and spent 3 years at home with my son. At that time I learned to make jewelry using macrame technique and polymer clay. Those jewelry pieces I sold sometimes in small festivals. At the same time strengthened the idea to study jewelry making, but I was still uncertain, because the school was hard to get into. After one year consideration, I finally had the courage to apply for the Goldsmith school. Surprisingly I got in on the first try.

My first encounter with lampwork beads was on the same day with my entrance examination to the Goldsmith school. After the exam, in a strange town, I found a lampwork studio. It was love at the first sight, I was totally fascinated by those tiny, colorful pieces of glass. I had never before seen something so unique and interesting. On that day i decided, that if I get to the school, I really want to learn how to make those magical glass beads. A few months later, I started my studies and luckily I found an apprenticeship from that same lampwork studio, which I had visited. From there my journey with glass began.

Although I had my studio already many years, I started full-time work with jewelry and glass in october 2014, after overcoming a severe disease. Many years I dreamed about becoming a full-time goldsmith and independent artist, but just didn't have enough courage to do that. I thought it was more secure to keep my permanent job as an art framer. Then in january 2014 my disease just began unexpectedly. It was rare acute neurological disease, that took my ability to walk and caused terrible pains. I was afraid of losing my arms also. Situation was unspeakably frightening, because doctors couldn't tell me would I ever be normal again. That forced me to think my life seriously. It was the moment when I promised myself, that if my health would be even a little bit better, I would start to do things that I really love, without any doubt.

After two hospital periods I was finally able to come home, but my recuperation was like stormy waves; one week I progressed fast, then another I crashed down with all the pains and numbness. I had to go through a variety of emotions, from deep despair to overflowing gratefulness. Still there was a completely new type of strenght inside me. I had found a zest for life, stronger than ever before. I was decided to overcome the disease and turn over a new leaf on my life.

Now, 1 year later, I am finally fulfilling my biggest dream. I was lucky, I recovered almost completely. My life changed totally through hardships, but today I am only grateful for that. I want to encourage all to hold on to your dreams, no matter how far they seems to be. Life is too precious to waste on hesitation or undervaluing own skills. Dreams have the power to beat all the obstacles. Your dreams will build the future.

Thank You for reading and have a nice time in my shop!
