I just LOVE this shop!! Nicole is on her third custom order for me and I couldn't be more satisfied with product and workmanship. Her prices are fair and well worth every penny. Shipping has been smooth and timely. Thank you Nicole! I can't wait to see what future items are.
Handmade Items for You and Your Home
Nik J Designs came to be in the Fall of 2011. I, Nicole (Nikki) Tupesis, started this little business adventure after my family relocated to Madison, WI from Chicago. I decided to leave my chosen field of nutrition and stay home with my kids - who at the time were 2 and 3 years old. Speaking of...I have two wonderfully crazy kids, Talis age 9 and Mila age 7 1/2. As most parents can attest to (except those with perfect kids of course!) raising kids is the most precious yet insane task one can take on. Nik J Designs was born out of the need for a creative outlet to calm a little of the crazy. I inherited my grandmother's old Viking Husqvarna sewing machine and although she sadly never taught me to sew, I took up this hobby and taught myself.
This little hobby quickly became a business and before I knew what happened my home was taken over by sewing machines, fabric, etc. Thankfully I met a good friend, Emily Graf, with the same problem and we decided to get a studio space together (my very supportive husband was thrilled at the idea of reclaiming our home!). After falling in love with a space that was way bigger than we needed, our next business came to be. We opened Juneberry Studio & Marketplace in September 2014. This is our studio as well as a handmade marketplace featuring goods from talented folks around the Midwest.
As I have continued to grow and learn in this business I have refined my skills and interests. I am transitioning into designing my own textiles with the help of another talented friend and designer, Larisa Kins. Inspired by my own Scandinavian background and my husband's Latvian roots, we take inspiration from tranditional Latvian folk symbols to create modern prints.
I will end with a big thanks to all those who have supported me over these years (too many to mention but you all know who you are)! - Nik
