I love to do and make. Watching a movie? Pass me the beads or scrabble tiles - I'll make some bobby pins or necklaces! Wanna meet up for a coffee date? How about we take some tea to go and head out for a hike! I like to be active and I like my hands to be active. As the great Thomas Jefferson once said, "Determine never to be idle... It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing." That's very much my philosophy in life.
Plus I want to be barbie. She's gets to do every profession on earth. How to achieve it? By doing as much as you can!
That bleeds into the things that I make. I have a wide variety of different kinds of accessories, both represented in my Etsy store - from paper products to plush goods - and my wholesale line found in stores. My wholesale line incorporates beads, chains and tiles. Variety means I never get bored, so I jump from one item and project to the next, having a blast all the way...
I've been a crafty businesswoman since childhood, selling friendship bracelets for 25 cents each on the playground in elementary school and collaged bookmarks throughout middle school. By high school I'd graduated to brick and mortar stores, selling beaded bobby pins at Presents of Mind.
I'm an avid lover of Portland, but also a frequent traveler and the concept of Portland on My Sleeve was a way for me to marry the two. If I could preserve everything I love about Portland, then I would feel more at ease leaving it. What started as a website detailing everything in my heart/on my sleeve about Portland morphed into related accessories since I'm a crafty person and have to be doing things with my hands other than simply type. I launched the first tote bag in summer 2010 with help from a bunch of other crafty friends.
My product line has expanded, but my ethos remain the same: making things I'd want to wear myself and things that are fun to do! My latest items are my Portland themed 1-inch buttons. I drew them while on a Bolt Bus ride from Vancouver, Canada back to Portland, shot them with my iPhone, emailed them to myself thanks to the in-bus wifi and added digital color all before the end of the trip! I'm now venturing to create items that celebrate other cities such as my new home base of Los Angeles.
I love to travel, draw, sew and watch X-Files. I split my time hiking, freelancing (photography and writing) and getting crafty!
