Great yarn, fast shipping. Fourth skein I've bought--that says it all.
Of Goats and Carpets
How long have we been spinning wool here? About 7,000 years. That's when humans bred the first sheep with woolly fleeces that could be spun into fabrics, somewhere in this region.
No wonder then that nomads used wool for everything - not just clothing and blankets, but also bags and tents. And of course the Turkish carpets that are now a luxury item across the world.
Our yarns are spun for knitting, not carpet-weaving. But the dyes we use are the same ones used to make weaving wool. If you've ever visited the bazaars of Istanbul, you'll recognize the distinctive bright colors. And like Turkish carpets, the vegetable-based dyes slowly mellow with age and sunlight - not fade, but become somehow warmer. They'll have plenty of time to age - unlike spinning machines, our human spinners don't snap the wool fibers, so the yarn is naturally strong.
Strength also is the reason for our 30% blend of mohair with 70% sheeps wool. Mohair, from the angora goat, is slippery and weak by itself - this blend results in yarn strength similar to pure wool, but with the added insulation of mohair. Angora goats, by the way, are named after their original home of Ankara, now the modern capital of Turkey but once a mostly rural province.
I like: * winter hikes * spring flowers * summer swims * autumn clouds
In the modern world it's becoming harder to maintain the traditional lifestyle in the mountains, as the younger generation are drawn to the bright lights and salaries of the cities. By opening up a new market for their yarns, I hope to give some financial independence to the mostly older women that have no employment opportunities outside their homes.
Card payments are securely processed via Paypal. Note you do not need to register with Paypal! When you checkout your puchase, you'll be directed to Paypal's secure site to enter your card details. Paypal doesn't send me your card information, so you don't need to worry about card fraud or identity theft.
I ship my organic yarns from Kaş, Turkey, to just about anywhere in the world! Shipping is free for orders over $60. For other orders, the shipping cost is very reasonable - no more than you might expect to pay for shipping within your own country.
I offer two shipping methods - registered airmail or registered ground shipping. Airmail takes 4-10 days worldwide. Ground shipping is a bit slower (7-14 days) and the cost-saving isn't significant, but I offer it for customers who want to ensure the lowest possible carbon footprint.
After shipping, I'll send you an email with your tracking number, so you can monitor the progress of your package.
Yarns are shipped in purpose-made plastic airmail bags. I'd love to avoid all plastic, but water-resistance is important to protect your wool. They weigh very little, keeping shipping waste to a minimum.
Refunds and Exchanges
When I've received the full returned package, I'll refund your original payment to whichever account you paid with.
Additional policies and FAQs
If you're planning to make more than one item - for example, two jumpers - you might want to explain in your order notes, so that if necessary I can send you e.g. two batches of 400g each.
Although my yarns use the same natural dyes that are used to make Turkish carpets and kilims, they are firmly knitting yarns, and aren't suitable for carpet weaving. That said, if you're searching for weaving wool, do get in touch.
I can handle wholesale orders (minimum 15kg, mix of colors is possible). The lead time will typically be at least a month plus shipping. Convo me to discuss prices.
