About

Jewels of the Ocean

Beach combing was purely a hobby for me, until the Internet came along. Sure, I'd sometimes meet people on the beach and we'd swap stories, as collectors, but that was as far as the sense of "community" reached. These days, we can reach out to fellow collectors and artists around the world, without ever having to leave home.

I started selling my beach finds more or less by accident. Many years ago, I met an artist at a street arts fair-- and even though she lived in Kansas (far from the ocean!) she was working with sea glass, making jewelry and mobiles.

Many years later-- in 2006-- I got more serious about selling my sea glass and other beach treasures, after learning about the North American Sea Glass Association (NASGA) and discovering just HOW many artists were working with sea glass. As I am not particularly "artistic" (aside from photography), it appealed to me to be able to get beautiful sea glass into the hands of creative souls-- rather than just having it sit in jars (however pretty) on my window sills.

The North Beach Treasures shop on Etsy opened in late 2008. My "mission" here is to provide the best authentic beach combed sea glass for jewelry making and art projects. All my sea glass will be graded and sorted into reasonable sized "lots," with the core idea that the quality is there, and you know exactly what you are getting, so there is no "waste."

Can anyone go to the beach and find sea glass to make jewelry or art with? Absolutely! Can anyone go to the beach and find exactly the pieces they want, in specific colors and sizes, in order to create specific jewelry or art they had in mind? And "on demand?" Probably not.

This is a family venture. My wife and I are the beach combers; I am the photographer and she is the "web guru." We do this because we have always loved the beach and because it's.... well... FUN!

I offer jewelers and other artisans the finest in NATURAL surf-tumbled sea glass and beach pottery. EVERYTHING you'll find on these pages was personally hand picked from a beach, somewhere on the US West Coast. I never tumble, oil or other artificially alter the things I find on our beaches.

If you're interested in the "long version" of my beach combing story, please read the "Profile" section of my site.

Payment
I welcome payment by PayPal, checks or money orders. You're welcome to send a personal check, but new customers should allow a couple of extra days for bank clearance.

If you're paying by mail, I kindly ask that you get your remittance in within 10 days of the time you order. I do understand that life sometimes gets busy, and "things come up," and can certainly work on exceptions in certain circumstances.

If you live outside the US, I prefer payment via PayPal. HOWEVER, some customers may not have access to PayPal, and prefer to remit by sending cash. That's acceptable, but please remember that I can NOT be held responsible for money lost in the mail. In the case of overseas cash payments, I accept US dollars, Canadian Dollars, UK Pounds and Euro. Please refer to www.xe.com/ucc for exchange rates if you wish to remit in a currency other than US dollars.
Shipping
The majority of packages are shipped via first class mail. This is generally the least expensive-- and fastest-- way to ship low weight items. Larger packages will be shipped via Priority Mail. I do NOT use parcel post! Priority Mail shipments will always include delivery confirmation.

The first item you purchase is charged shipping at regular price, each subsequent item purchased is shipped at a reduced rate.

Insurance is optional on all packages with a total value below US$200.00; packages above this value will only be sent insured. International shipments are generally NOT insurable.

International shipments will be sent via airmail. Recipient is responsible for any taxes or customs duty due on receipt. Because we have a commercial shipping account and must adhere to postal regulations, we can NOT mark shipments as "gifts" or with "no value" to help buyers evade taxes and duties!

I generally do NOT offer expedited shipping, as most first class/Priority packages reach their destination (within the US) in two business days.
Refunds and Exchanges
Bottom line: I want you to be happy with your purchase from North Beach Treasures!

In general, if you don't like something, send it back to me within 14 days, in the condition in which you received it and I'll give you a full refund, no questions asked.

There are a few exceptions: INDIVIDUAL items within a "lot" of multiple items are NOT returnable. Similarly, I generally don't accept returns of items for being "defective" if the item description clearly states that the item(s) has defects.
Additional policies and FAQs
I do accept "requests" for specific sea glass and pottery items, and will do whatever I can to accommodate your inquiry. However, please keep in mind that I don't "make" or "buy" anything I sell-- I have to go and actually FIND it, and I'm at the mercy of tides and weather, and what the ocean chooses to wash up on the shore, at any given time.

Certain colors of sea glass are in HIGH demand, and LOW supply-- especially authentic aquamarine, pink, red and turquoise. If you're looking for large numbers of pieces in a "difficult" or "popular" color, please be aware that I may end up putting you on a waiting list and it may be MONTHS before your name makes it to the top of the list!

PLEASE PLAN AHEAD! If you KNOW (for example) you'll want six dozen pieces of red sea glass (which is VERY rare) for earrings and bracelets for Valentine's Day, let me know in JUNE, so I can start creating an order for you, so you won't end up disappointed! Even so, there are no guarantees.

North Beach Treasures is a family business licensed in the state of Washington, USA. In addition to our beach combed sea glass, we also have a creative arm called "Alchemy Stones" which has a separate shop here on Etsy.
